Putin is not immortal. When he dies, some other idiot will take Russia in a slightly different direction. How far it goes will depend upon how badly Putin damaged the country's resources in his raging stupidity.
I agree with your typification of the Chinese approach. And, they are reasonably successful at it. But, you seem to think that they will prosper because they are unchecked by the bickering of 'the West' and can act with impunity. Well, you need to keep in mind that while China is doing fairly well with their assembly of the 'Belt & Road' program to economically dominate the Asia, along with the Pacific and Indian ocean spheres, it is not unchallenged. There is India, which is directly confronting China's efforts with their own 'String of Pearls' program.
Think 'multipolar'.

History always repeats itself. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that any empire lasts forever. How that end date will look will be left to the future.

History always repeats itself. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that any empire lasts forever. How that end date will look will be left to the future. History does not repeat itself, but it does tend to rhyme a lot. I don't believe any empire lasts forever, including the empire of recurrent history; indeed, I'm something of a scholar of the collapse of societies. I even have a favorite theorist of societal collapse: Joseph Tainter. I suggest you read his work. 'How that will look' being left to the future is a senseless tautology. "The is is the was of what shall be." D'oh.
