It is quite absorbing but that is not a bad thing: the problem is breaking out of the absorption and getting some writing done from it all.

This may not be a post for those of a nervous disposition.
I have had a lovely talk with a retired former colleague who spent three years in Spain as one of the resident Anglican chaplains on the Costa Fortune - where he had a jolly good time. The conversation naturally turned to funerals, as clergy chats often do. Apparently, there is a custom in Spain of taking the immediate family into the back of the crematorium to observe their departed loved being inserted into the cremator through a safety glass picture window. The technician will lift the coffin lid so that the next-of-kin can confirm that it is indeed Great Aunt Consuella who is about to be committed to the flames and the coffin is then wheeled to the conveyor belt and the cremator doors opened so that the final departure can be witnessed before the curtains are drawn.
I am not sure that I would be very comfortable about this myself! I gather that it is normal for Hindu families to witness insertion in the UK as a substitute for the 'proper' procedure of burning on an open pyre. I think that on the whole I am content for the skilled artisan to get on with his task without getting in his way.

I felt bad enough watching my loved on being lowered into a hole, while in a box! Directly watching her being burnt would have been horrific!

I felt bad enough watching my loved on being lowered into a hole, while in a box! Directly watching her being burnt would have been horrific! I think that would be the worst thing for me. I can't even watch anything on TV where people burn and if a scene like that comes on, I have to close my eyes. I'd never want to watch that!

Indeed not, I was very surprised indeed by it: maybe the Spanish population are beginning to attain Mordorian standards of robust behaviour?

We have snow as well. First proper snow, even though it isn't that much.

It's been below freezing for a few days here but we had clear skies and there was no snow. Today we may get a bit of sleet.

We've had less snow so far this year than last year, and last year to this point was less than 10% of average!
I'm not complaining at all, mind you. Over 10ÂşC here today, but dropping fast, tomorrow may not break 0ÂşC.

There was a bit of rain last night and heaps yesterday morning. On the plus side, it has been significantly warmer than the last few days.

Hmmph ... well anyway ... today is Gaudete Sunday - or the Third of the Advent Season if you prefer and I have been wooshing around like a thing possessed. Christmas has already arrived with a vengence this week, Christmas Fair, two carol services, Christmas Lunch for the pensioners, Christmas Afternoon Tea for the Senior Fellowship, Christmas 'who wants to be a Millionaire' in the University Chapel (a kind of an act of worship involving a version of the infamous quiz show focused on the gospel narratives ... thank goodness I got the answers right, otherwise it would have been very embarrassing) but only two masses this morning. And Carol Service in the parish church this evening ...

I'm glad my parish is not as dynamic as yours!

It's tricky this dynamism stuff innit ... mind you we have four church buildings with about six congregations and a big team whereas you are almost on your own with one building and two congregations (plus the Koreans I guess) so it is not really like for like.

No, the Koreans are gone --just as well since they outnumbered us when they were here by quite a bit. It was very demoralizing for my gang.

Which Koreans? Did I miss anything?

Fr. K's people gave a meeting place for a bunch of Korean Methodists who had no worship centre of their own ... a big bunch of Koreans ...

They're renting space in a much bigger church now, and are apparently very happy.

That's good - but has it made it more difficult for you to keep your building costs manageable?

That sounds odd, having a separate group of Korean Christians in your church and then suddenly losing them.
