956 146 This is the countdown thread so you need to add a number to your post.

956 144 Don't worry, any contribution to this countdown thread is appreciated, especially if it means we might finish it a generation earlier than predicted because of it.

And manitou, don't worry. We're always stuffing up the count and missing new pages. Somebody usually comes along and gets us back on track.

956 140 Yeah, Manitou --you replied to a post at the end of one page, but there had already been replies to it on a new page, which you didn't see. It happens all the time.

It's OK, you don't have to count up, just down.

I seem to remember irrational numbers (such as sqrt2) are countable but transcendental numbers (such as pi) are not.

tangent, rational numbers are countable (you can list them in a sequence although it takes a bit of thought to make one).
But I'm pretty sure irrationals are uncountable. Because transcendental numbers *are* irrational. However, you're probably thinking of numbers which are the roots of polynomials with integer coefficients, which would be countable ... just can't remember the term for these numbers ... "algorithmic"?

I didn't think you were the kind of person to visit a dongle shop.
Wait, I see what you mean

956 130 Not from the UK, though I bought a lovely table and very nice chairs + a new sofa. The latter was a treat I'd promised myself a long time ago, but due to circumstances... (for example living in a house which doesn't have a large enough door for a proper sofa)

I have an idea: let's lock this thread at 956 001 and start a new one at 956 000. That will make it easier to check the count is right at the top of each page. Or even at 956 101.

956 128
Or we could reduce the number of post per page from 30 to 25 and and start a new thread at 956 100...

In fact, as the count is wrong again I am going to insist we do something!

The only other option is counting to the closest round number in a single post the next time we change pages.
