Do you have a favourite quote that comforts or inspires you? Off the top of my head (can't be bothered to look them up so they may be slightly paraphrased) the ones that have most comforted me are to do with anxiety:
'I've lived through some terrible things in my life, and some of them actually happened' Mark Twain
'There is naught good or bad but thinking makes it so' Shakespeare, Hamlet.

Pretty well anything by Rumi these days, but today particularly:
“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.”
and: “If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”

Mine is kind of weird. I like only a part of a larger one, "To be or not to be!" Then I add my own in a certain situation. "To be or not to be, I choose to not deal with it. Now go away!"
It changes to whatever happens.

I just heard one this weekend which I liked, by Oscar Wilde "The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself."

Say that is a good one. Advice is better to be used instead of held on to. But of course not everyone listens to advice.

Good advice is like the speed limit, they are both sub clauses of The Occasional Conformity Act

Two things of which I remind myself almost every day:
(Basically it's a warning from wallowing in and being content with small achievements, when one has bigger goals to aim for)

Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though it's breaking When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow You'll see the sun come shining through for you Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near That's the time you must keep on trying Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile If you just smile That's the time you must keep on trying Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile If you just smile
Nat King Cole

I cannot say that I was comforted or inspired but I think it rings very true, especially when reading about politics and upheavals: "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" (Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, 1849)

Here are some longstanding favorites:
- A fanatic is someone who does what he knows God would do if God knew the facts of the case.
- If you're going to walk on thin ice, you may as well dance.
- I find that when someone's taking time to do something right in the present, he's a perfectionist with no ability to prioritize, whereas when someone took time to do something right in the past, he's a master artisan of great foresight. -xkcd
...And one fairly new one:
- Quotes found on the internet are not always accurate!!! -Abraham Lincoln
