Assuming you have tree lights at all, what colour are they? I must admit that I love coloured lights - white ones can look elegant but they also look somewhat 'cold' I think and it's not something I'd have for preference. I once had a set of blue ones but I did not use them on the tree .. just for general decoration purposes.

I have white lights around my window, but coloured lights on the Christmas tree. I like both styles.

We have coloured lights in the window, but white lights on the fie sprigs that we have instead of a Christmas tree. We also have proper lights for a Christmas tree which are white, but so far we haven't used them. Frank's parents use proper candles on their Christmas tree which always makes me a little nervous. But his sister's boyfriend is a fireman.

I like white lights, but not the bluey-white 'cold' type, the warmer white ones.

We always had multi-colored ones on our tree growing up, but the tree I got for our apartment has white lights, which I think I prefer.

Hmm real candles is pushing it a bit I think THough I know it used to be traditional. I wonder how many fires were caused by it though?!

They just leave them on when they are in the room. I keep telling myself it's not my house which might sound mean, but I can't demand that they change it, so I need to accept it. It helps to have a fireman in the house, though.

You're not allowed to say 'coloured' anymore, it has to be 'black'. White or black tree lights?

You guys are spelling colored wrong. We have a mixture of white and multiple hued (how's that for being PC) lights. I love the new LED lights, they reflect on the walls.

We had a bust up in the forum many years ago when George (Erekose) accidentally called someone coloured. She objective strongly and eventually left the forum deeply offended. Now we are about to come full circle and 'coloured' is the in word *sigh*

I find it a bit shockin that English teachers here tell their pupils they are supposed to use the word 'coloured'. It could cause conflicts like the one you described and English teachers should know better.

Back to the subject of lights I've got a nice bunch of blue LED ones today (my mum gave me them). But my tree lights aren't up to much .. batteries keep running down.

It's all much simpler in South Africa where blacks and coloureds are distinct population groups.

Got to be coloured. White or pale blue is so bland and unfestive.

I grew up with red Christmas tree lights. They have to be red. OK, I'll accept orange and green but not blue.

They were the only LED lights when LEDs were first invented (actually a slightly orangy red). It was only after a few years/decades that other colours became available.

In the 1980s, red and green LEDS cost a few pence but blue LEDS cost £2 or more IIRC when they first became available.
