I really don't know. I didn't think I should press him to explain or he might become ill, but he was very definite about it!
He wouldn't have liked Richard's fancy dress costume at Congleton Town Fair in 1985 when Richard was dressed up as a huge tomato, complete with green spiky hat.

My sister is phobic of baked beans .. she used to be physically terrified of the sight of them. She's apparently got better since having kids - as baked beans are sort of a staple of the under fives diet - but she still shudders around them

I refuse to cook lamb even though Ronald likes it. But I suppose that's just one meat. If I didn't like lots of things at some point I might learn to cook something anyway. But the smell of lamb is so gross, I can't imagine stinking up my house with that and having to sleep in that smell. Bleh.

I have always hated tinned mushrooms. To me they feel as if I was chewing slugs. Harzer cheese which is quite popular in Germany, is even worse. Even the smell makes me sick. If I was forced to eat that, I would probably end up throwing up.

Ulgh, tinned mushrooms are the grossest. I also don't like the tinned baby corn. Most tinned veggies are not that great really. The only exceptions I can think of being sweet corn kernels and beetroot. Those can be eaten as is. A few others, like green beans are edible if you chuck them into a dish and they're cooked. On the other hand tinned lentils are ingenious. Why cook lentils for eons when you can just drain acan for your salads? Brilliant!

She hated it because of the aroma it created during cooking. (In her estimation, mutton was worse.) So, I never ate lamb until I left home as an adult. It doesn't particularly impress me. It does have a robust scent. Swimmer loves her occasional lambchops.

Soft and mushy. I'm totally pro-flash frozen for peas. Other than that, tinned doesn't bother me. Fresh is better, but fresh isn't always available.

They come out like British peas. Soft and mushy. I'm totally pro-flash frozen for peas. Presumably you mean mushy peas. Ordinary ("garden") peas are always flash frozen these days. Tinned peas went out shortly after the war - well, by 1980 at any rate.

I am not taken with canned peas. I prefer frozen to fresh indeed. Mushy - never at all.
Lamb can be hit and miss. Generally I love it but now and then it tends to taste rather gamey and has a nasty smell. the last couple of times we've had it it's been like that so I am a bit off it at the moment. I dunno if it's to do with country of origin or the age or the cut or what. I've only had mutton in pies or curries, never alone, so I don't really know what it tastes of but I gather it's very strong.

Is there a difference between sweet peas and normal peas? Either way, I'm not a fan of them tinned. Snap frozen are perfectly good if you are cooking them. A lot of veggies are quite good frozen, though fresh is best when you can get it. I find that the brand can really make a difference too with frozen veg.

I am not sure if there's a difference. I find frozen veg fine generally. The only thing I really prefer fresh is swede ... which is a shame cos it's a right bugger to peel and mash. Much better than any pre prepared you can get though

Mashed swede is fantastic .. bit of butter, but does not have to be that much. Much better than if it's just sliced and boiled.
