In Blair Atholl, bound for Ayr (3 nights), then Falkirk (2 n), Haydon Bridge (3 n), Telford Ironbridge (3 n), Whittleford Station (6 n), and my final night in the Heathrow ibis. That is my itinerary.

I've now recovered from my stomach ulcer and can travel. Are you passing through Manchester on your way to Telford, WG?
(My charge has been threatened with court action, and that would have to take precedence, but I don't think it will happen.)

You know, I'm not really sure. I am foing to Telford because it js the closest inexpensive accommodation to the RAF airshow at Cosford on Saturday. I booked 3 nights because I thought I mighty duck in to nearby Wellington and nose around, so.I do have an extra unplanned day in Telford.

O my dawg....He's planning a return trip. When will he ever get enough? I'm talking to the folks at St. Hilda Sea Adventure tours, out of Oban, in northwestern Scotland. My last trip, I got a bee in my bonnet about Callanais, in Callanish, on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. These folks do small ship tours of all of the Hebrides, including the Outer Hebrides with Lewis and the standing stones at Callanish. When I started looking at their various configurations of tours, I started dreaming about doing two of these tours end to end....the Outer Hebrides and the Inner Hebrides. Since the latter is deep in distillery country, I opted for the 'Whisky and Wildlife' tour and found that the 'St. Kilda & the Shiants' tour hit a lot of the high spots of the Outer Hebrides, and place me in close proximity to Callanish, could be linked so that I disembark from the Inner Hebrides voyage to embark on the Outer Hebrides tour. Two weeks on the waters of the North Atlantic (eight nights in the Inners, ten nights in the Outers) ....in early August of 2020. Mind....I haven't absolutely committed yet, and I don't have a travel companion, but the two trips together should run me just over four thousand pounds. Of course, I still have to add in international air fare and the costs of accommodations before and after. It is still in a struggle with the more expensive Baltic tour, and other possibilities, like the Adriatic and Iberia are also pressing.

If you do come back to these shores we could do a big EF moot at the rather wonderful guest house down the road (your expenses on us). Maybe I could even get out of the house by then - I am truly working on it - and we could do a West Lakes tour

So I heard. But it was booked when I got there. I stayed at two places in Whitehaven, both were fine, but the latter, the Tivoli, which I relocated to with Moose's advice, was nice, but not close.

I've been thinking often about those St Hilda's tours since the first time you mentioned it. I hope it's lovely if you go, and I hope you'll tell us all about it. I do think I'll do one of them at some point, though when I don't know.

I'm running ambivalent about it again. I've been to Scotland thrice now and I've never been to the Baltic...it has more new vistas for me. I'm sure the St. Hilda adventure would be beautiful and exceeding interesting. The same with Iberia...I've never been.

Go with the Baltics!
I was thinking of touring that region last time we were in Europe but we ended up not having much time, so did the week in Malta which I felt was a reasonable amount of time to give to that small a country. Though there was so much to see!!

Oh....I've heard of Malta. It intrigues me.
The primary hinderance with the Baltics is that it is relatively more expensive than all the other possible tours, save the high Artic and Antarctica. Of course, going to St. Petersburg without going to the Hermitage is a crime, but it is not included with the package I'm considering. Of course, I've been, but I would not turn down a return. But then, I have yet to make it to Peterboro, which I understand is the epitome of wretched excess....always worth a goggle. It does hit all the spots (but Lithuania) in which I'm interested, from Copenhagen to St. Pete and back at sea level.

My Baltic tour was 1700 USD (approximately) for 13 days --but that didn't include airfare.
I liked it a lot and we had gorgeous weather last May.

I'm looking at a 15 day tour through Denmark, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Finland, and Sweden. Air fare included. Even with air fare included, your tour came in at under half the cost of the one I'm looking at. What's your group, again?

G AdventuresHighly recommended by me. The tours are pretty funky, all ages, lots of flexibility, socially conscious cool and informative. And they're based on solo travel (couples can go, but they each pay the same as a single person would).

Wow, 7 countries in 15 days! That's not much time for any place. Yeah, they are usually offered with pre-trip and post-trip 'extensions' in nearby locales not actually on the tour. For extra bucks, of course. It's seven dockings for two days in each port. From my experience, the sailing is done at night. I've found that if I'm flying to Europe, I need about three to four days to acclimate and get over the jet lag, so I tend to book in to the start trip for extra days on my own. We extended our stays in both Bucharest and Budapest. Then we did nearly two weeks in Budapest, after ten days on the Danube. Although that worked out well, Swimmer was planning on going back to Vienna, but never made it. I went on my own through Slovakia to Krakow, but I never made my planned side trip to alpine Austria. So, yeah...but there are ways to up one's ante.

Personally I think we should acquire a longboat from somewhere - theft is an option - and just do our own tour. Who's in?

I'm not sure you should be in charge of snacks. You have some odd tastes. As the resident food snob, all food should be vetoed by me.

Moose can be in charge of snacks, rb in charge of actual cooking. The longboat will have a galley, right?
