Someone recommended a local pub that does a take away roast dinner so we decided to give it a try - never had takeout Sunday dinner before or even heard of it. Anyway there was a choice of gammon, lamb and beef and I was hoping for the lamb but they only had gammon left when I called so we had two of those. I am quite taken with it - it's nice gammon, (a) roast potato, braised cabbage, parsnips, broccoli, mash, carrots and yorkies. Col is less than impressed though - I dunno if he just has higher standards than me I am quite happy though and would buy it a again, if just as an occasional treat .

Why is he less than impressed? Are the veggies over done? I hate that. We had Chinese take out today as we were once again working in the house with family.

I'd be impressed with the gammon, roast potatoes, carrots and mash but less impressed with the rest.
Cumbrian Yorkshire pudding with gammon is definitely not right.

Roast for takeaway sounds weird. But then I remember when I used to work in a takeaway shop we always had a roast of the day and people would order that to be delivered. My food standards are higher and I can't imagine I'd be impressed. I don't tend to like the typical roasts that Aussies do which come courtesy of the Brits. Of course these days you find much tastier recipes, but somehow in the takeaway shops they're alwayas those old style bland things with overcooked veg and meat and some salty gravy to try and compensate for flavour.

Lol, that reminds me that in the takeaway shop I used to make the gravy. I never tasted it as I hated gravy. But the gravy always used to get compliments. I have since learnt the joys of gravy on hot chips though.

I don't like gravy and don't put it on food ever. The only time I would ever eat it would be in a steak pie or something
