I love my bread dark. The darker the better. I especially like it when there are still bits of seeds and grains in it. Grofvolkoren in Dutch.

Bits of seeds and grains are fine, but not in completely dark bread.

Black bread is not nice in my experience.
I tried a sourdough baguette from our nearest bakery last weekend, was far too sour IMO. But they had a spelt and honey loaf which I thought sounded rather interesting and tasty. Might try it next time.

I quite like sourdough .. I'd like to have a go at making that myself one of these days.

I'm not sure if I have actually ever eaten sourdough.

i always thought if it as being a vaguely German thing but I could be entirely wrong (I know it is popular in the US, at least; dunno where I am getting the German connection from)

I got a sourdough 'starter' (lump of fermented yeast) from a German friend. Didn't manage to make the bread, though.

I have never really heard about it here. But I have to admit I'm generally not keen on typical German food like sauerkraut, sausages, beer or the populat "currywurst", so I'm the wrong person to ask.

It's probably just known as bread in Germany.

I eat Fazer's sourdough bread (made out of wholemeal flour from both rye and wheat) every morning with cheese and tomato. The tomato makes it less dry. I really like the full-bodied taste. (Fazer is Finnish, but I believe it was started by a baker of Swiss origin.) Attachments:

I never really like it. Even the beer. I tried to like that because all the students did and it was cheap, but it has never really been my thing, to be honest.
