Here, an 'Amber Alert' is a public announcement of a missing child, ususally a suspected abduction.
It's a heat wave! The balcony thermometer is registering 34 C.

A missing child called Amber?

Kind of. This is the Wiki explanation.

What colour comes between red and green in your traffic lights? Yellow or amber?

Yellow.

It's generally called amber here. Next question - if any of you are unfortunate enough to have to deal with business projects, or anything that requires a boring status rating, have you come across RAG - red-amber-green - ratings? Wikipedia calls it Traffic light rating system. It occurs to me that American business people always talk about RAG, never red-yellow-green even though that seems to be the common wording for actual traffic lights. Maybe RAG is just easier to say than RYG. This is important.

'Amber' to describe a color is not a real American tendency. The typical tendency is to refer to the center color as 'yellow'. This is despite practically every traffic enforcement agency and licensing bureau using the term 'amber'. Don't ask me why. I guess it happens in Canuckistan, too.
I have heard a response to a police officer's description by a witness: "No! No, it wasn't 'amber', the light was yellow when they went through the intersection."

We call it amber alert here too when a child is missing.
Weather here is this and that really.

Still in the heat wave. Presently, it is 35 C outdoors and so I am hiding indoors with the A/C on.

Yesterday was 10°C, today was 50% warmer (not a scientific statement).

It's muggy here and has been for a couple of days. Last week we had loads of thunderstorms, but none so far this week. I rather hope the mugginess disappears the next couple of days because it is hard to breathe outside. Well, not hard really, but unpleasant.

It's cool and cloudy here today (and probably tomorrow).

Isn't Amber the stuff with dinosaur DNA in?

Dunno about the 'dinosaur' DNA, but amber, basically fossilized tree sap, has been found with embedded insect life from the period when the sap was exuded.

Isn't Amber the stuff with dinosaur DNA in? ALLEGEDLY. I've never seen any in UK traffic lights though.

Electricity is named from amber. The Latin name for amber was electricus, and amber was known for producing static electric effects when rubbed. Traditionally, cat fur was used to rub the amber which could then pick up feathers, and could be observed in the dark producing small sparks when bought close to the walls.

That must have really annoyed the cat!

That sobbing was for RB with her summer-weather winter. We had the last day of nice weather today. Going to be only tops of 13 and rainy for the rest of the week. Lows as low as 5 degrees by the weeks end.

Overnight rain. Not too much, but enough to wet the ground. It is warm enough for me to prop the door open for the fuzzwads.

We seem to be experiencing a series of days where it dawns overcast and cool, then clears off for sunny and warm, but not hot, afternoons.

Yesterday we had the coldest June day in 36 years! It was 9.8 degrees or something like that.
It's cold but sunny.
