When are you coming to the UK for a visit? OK, I understand, you're a student.

For now! I applied for a job in the UK, but apparently I failed at the interview.

Maybe you shouldn't have used your Scottish accent. Apparently it's hard to understand

Last time I saw this I was living in NL and I think it was harder to understand. Listening to it now, entrenched in Aussie, it all sounded pretty clear and normal to me.

Frank had that problem when trying to call Vodafone once. The voice recognition didn't understand his accent.

Google does a pretty good job on my phone. I tell it what I want and it knows.

My phone had to learn how to pronounce my daughter's name (Laurence) because I speak in English, but her name is pronounced the French way. The system learned it pretty quickly though once I corrected it a few times.

I refuse to talk to machines whenever I can.

I find machines understand me.

I always feel as if I was talking to myself when talking to a machine and that is embarrassing. Steve, do you like talking to machines then?

I was chatting with an employee yesterday because I had a question, but I think the "live chatting employee" was actually just a computer. That, or the person on the other side was completely stupid and unable to understand a simple, but multi-layered question.

My experience of speech to text recognition is bad! Even the industry leaders our company had dealings with refused to put more than 90% accuracy on their products, which is pathetic! Several repeatedly tried to sell us speech-driven products, but testing never made anything actually reliable. The only thing I've found that works for me was an IBM product that actually trained itself to my voice and learned over time.
We had many phone services, several of them in Scotland. Our operators had to repeatedly play recordings and often would only find an address by cross-referencing it with an address lookup.
I am not holding my breath for this technology...
