I think that Lucy Worlsey is very attractive?

I've never heard of most of those, and I don't consider 40s to be particularly old or even middle aged these days! Things are getting much better, but traditionally the ratio of older women to older men in the media is really skewed. There's no comparison. There's a whole history of prejudice against older women in art, film, the media (I wrote my master's thesis on this subject... ) Well, I consider 40 to be middle-aged. Any one old enough to have an adult child is middle-aged. I'm well aware of the situation. I remember when all news anchors and news reporters on ALL television news were male. In the American society in which I grew up, there was an antipathy to any kind of woman in any kind of high-profile and/or responsible position. I think that has changed ENORMOUSLY in my lifetime. I think that in my country, we are seeing more and more women 'of age' in high-profile positions of responsibility, particularly in the media. Curiously, in the US, in my lifetime, it has been in the media in which many such women have done quite well....Katharine Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Dolly Parton, and Oprah Winfrey all jump to mind.

It's true that the situation for women of age is changing, but there's still a long way to go (although I doubt it'll ever change much). They are vastly outnumbered by men and by younger women (or women who appear younger) in the media. Think of movies starring middle aged (or older) male actors. Nine times out of ten their love interest / on-screen spouse is much younger. There are subconscious cultural reasons for this, of course (for which I could provide plenty of citations). In a nutshell, sex sells *everything*, even the news, and women who appear old aren't sexy.

And at last female historians are just as likely to present (although as long as they're young and attractive it would seem, sigh... ) I'm going to stop biting my tongue on this ... That makes you entirely qualified to present a TV show. "Art with Juju" would be hugely successful and get you a massive fan base! (Not to say that you would necessarily enjoy the attention, any more than Miisa would enjoy the fame resulting from her Sceptics TV show ... or Moose her Question of the Day show )

There is that, yes.
So, JoeP is a bloke, too. Will he be presenting a series on "Intimate Secrets of the Baltic Region: Tracking the English Trophy Boyfriend Through Taiga And Tundra"?
I do suspect that anybody tuning in to see a travelogue on the Silk Road by yours truly would be likely to sign off as soon as they saw the scruffy, bearded, obese American with crooked teeth nattering on...

Yes! Sister Wendy was great. In terms of History/Art History presenting she was a real novelty, but I really liked her (wonder if she's still alive...? ). After Sister Wendy my favourite art historian is Andrew Graham Dixon - I tend to agree with everything he says. My least favourite historian is actually a woman - Janina Ramirez: ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/976x549_b/p034lxgd.jpg - I find her really irritating. But I love Dr Alice Roberts - Adrian met her once, and I took my son to see her give a talk. She's great!

Hmmm. I seem to remember growing up in the shadow of some towering greats like Barbara Ehrenreich, Hannah Arendt, Ariel Durant, and Barbara Tuchman. I stumbled across this, which has far more names than I have ever been aware. And pictures, too. Still, what you are talking is 'in the media'; showing their faces to the yawping public and being 'known'. Only a few of a great many reach that wide of exposure. The same as for male historians, and they pick the pretty faces there, too. ETA: Oooo....Here's an interesting one. I can imagine she'd have a shipload of clout (history, economics, Harvard & Cambridge, and a few family connections), but I don't think I've seen her in the media.

Did you see the one she did about dancing? Each episode covered a different era and she and her male co-presenter had to get dressed in appropriate costume and learn an iconic dance from that period to perform at the end of the episode.

Last time I was in London (hoped to escape the heatwave in Sweden but it was as hot in London) I bought a book by Lucy Worsley, My name is Victoria. I was looking for something easy to read, "Young adults" but did not find any. I think this one is for 12-year olds. The persons in this book are real people, the protagonist Miss V., princess Victoria, John Conroy, Lehzen etc. But the end is Worsley's own invention.
It is especially interesting to read about the childhood of Queen Victoria since I watch the TV-series Victoria (with Jenna Coleman as Victoria).
I've only seen one of Worsley's youtube videos, the one about George I. I appreciate that the video had English subtitle.

Anyone remember Sister Wendy? I liked her. Which brings me here. Sister Wendy Mary Beckett, star of multiple BBC art history presentations, died at age 88. Sister Wendy has crossed the rainbow bridge. I trust she'll be assigned to be a docent.
