I'd like to visit Norway, but Peter thinks it's too cold. That's the downside to being a couple: our tastes in both holiday destinations and holiday occupations are different.

I don't think Norway is cold all year ...

Those all sounds good. Kye's done the Baltics ... and you've got to keep up with the good Farther, surely. Norwegian fjords appeal to me. Nobody keeps up with the good Farther. She is a spirit unleashed.

Speaking of cold, Iceland seems to be all the rage in these parts. The folks I sail with didn't have any Icelandic offerings, but I've seen multiple other tour offerings.

I don't think Norway is cold all year ... I know, but Peter is more into sunny beaches, 30 + degrees. For me 28 is the max I'm comfortable at and sunny beaches are definitely not my thing.

I visited Oslo in 1965 and there just happened to be a heatwave at the time but that was unusual and it could easily have been rather cold.

Central Germany is the first place I want to go on the European continent, not that I will ever have the opportunity. The Harz mountains region.

I did Amsterdam to Vienna via barge on the Rhine, Main, locks, and the Danube. Beautiful country. I particularly liked Passau.

Central Germany is the first place I want to go on the European continent, not that I will ever have the opportunity. The Harz mountains region. I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to go to Germany two years ago! I got to stay in Bremen and visit Bremerhofen (where the ships taking people to North America left from....) I have three branches of ancestors that moved through that port on their way to the Colonies I actually felt a real connection with that spot. I also got to see the Fairy Tale castle of King Ludwig whose name I can't spell. It gave me a new appreciation of Wagner.

Norwegian fjords appeal to me. Make sure you don't get over involved or you may end up pining for them...

Slartibartfast made the Norwegian fjords. We are told this in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Well, he made the entire Planet Earth. He just particularly enjoyed making the fjords. He was responsible for Norway, but particularly enjoyed doing the crinkly bits round the edges! He couldn't have built the whole planet himself! How ludicrous does that sound?!

My wife and I had a similar problem. She preferred warm sunny climates and liked to stay in one place. I preferred more temperate climes and to roam. We addressed it by taking turns selecting holiday destinations. She took me to locations like Hawaii and Israel, while I selected the leafpeeper tour of New England and the Canadian Maritimes, and northwest Europe.

Swimmer wants me to join her in the tour of southern Spain and Portugal. I must admit I'm a bit intrigued, but would be even more intrigued if we could squeeze in side trips to Morocco and to Basque country (NW Spain).
I'm still most interested in the Baltics, but they are relatively so much more expensive.
And, I could always be tempted with a discount deal to Slovenia and Croatia....maybe even including Bosnia and Montenegro.
And, now, I will have the challenge of finding a sitter for my fuzzwads.

Speaking of destinations, Ronald and I need to figure out a honeymoon one. We can't quite decide. Really? You haven't decided? Wow. My wife and I decided on our honeymoon location then got married in the middle of it. Um, what kind of thing did you have in mind? In that region, but still far-flung enough, I would think, is Bali. For me, it has all of the exotic nature of the best of India, plunked down not far away from uptight but intriguing Singapore. Of course, I think that Borobudur would be one of the coolest ever....well, but for Gunung Padang, but my impression of that is that it is still buried deep in the jungles of Java, not easy to get to, and being discouraged by some elements.....stick to the sure thing in Borobudur. New Zealand? Tahiti?

Well, if anybody is planning on visiting Portland, Oregon, aka Puddle City, let me know. In the immediate future, and for some period of time as yet determined, I shall have ready 'guest accommodations' in my home for weary travelers. I work on the Franklin plan and guests need to start paying rent on the fourth day to cover the stench. It's not much, but, in a pinch, it can accommodate a small family unit and it is centrally located in the PDX metropolitan area, near three separate bus lines, and trending shopping/restaurant areas. Easy auto accessibility to the Cascades, the Columbia Gorge, and the Pacific Ocean 'beaches'.
As if anybody ever comes to Puddle City.

I don't think we'll get there anytime soon, but I'll keep it in mind. We've been invited to a wedding in Tokyo in 2020, so that's first on the list of perhapses.

I'd actually like to visit Portland. I've heard it's the place to go for Melbournians visiting the US. Plus I have two friends living there. Honeymoon has now been booked. We are staying in Australia. 5 nights in the Whitsundays (Hamilton Island to be exact) and then one week in Port Douglas - the very first holiday destination we ever went to. We'll do some beachng, great barrier reefing and daintree rainforesting. There wll also be stingers, sharks, crocodiles and cassowaries! So probably dead by the end of it! We are going to do a helicopter flight to see the famous heart reef and whitehaven beach. Can't wait! Not happening untl April though!

Whey kewl!
Helicopter rides are righteous! You should totally pull all rank possible...wave the 'new bride' card around, if you have to. Get a front row seat. My helicopter ride would have been much better had I not been wedged in to the center back seat, where I saw a lot of the back of the heads of those in front of me, and beside me.
I'm not surprised about it being the Melbournian locale to visit. I have friends in Melbourne...well, friends of my late wife. If you meet a Portlander with friends in Australia, it almost invariably tends to be Melbourne. I think it is a quantum urban entanglement. You don't have a unicycling bagpiper in a Vader mask, do you?

We don't have him but we know of him here. Ronald loves him.
Good tips regarding the helicopter - I will throw my bride card around.
