Does anyone remember this board before FaceBook took over our brains?

I hardly ever visit Facebook, so your question is not applicable to me

Facebook is for old people. Do you mean before Instgram and Twitter and Imgur took over our minds?

Well, I guess I qualify as 'old people'.....
I knew it would happen, just not when. It must have been when I was in the UK.

I jest ... I think.
Anyway the drain to Facebook and other things has been going on for years, has it not?

I like Instagram - mostly because of the guinea pig photos there.

I jest ... I think. Anyway the drain to Facebook and other things has been going on for years, has it not? Well, yeah...But there was a time when there was no FB and there was a EF, and an FF, and a SC.

It wasn't much fun after the American Evangelicals moved in...

It was good back in its heyday but then a lot of weirdos moved in. I must say though I've stopped talking with a lot of the right wingers I knew from there .. just had far too much of them .

I've been touristing and stuff so FB is easy to still access but EF not so much.

Well that's a plus. At least I know posting them has served some purpose.

It wasn't much fun after the American Evangelicals moved in... Well...There goes the neighborhood. Wardrobe was dedicated to C.S. Lewis, wasn't it? Why is it that such loosely-hinged types flock to Lewis sites? Or, G.K. Chesterton sites?

It was when the movies came out based on the Narnia books. Before that, it was just us chickens, with a few conservative Christians in the mix.

Not that I know of... I'm not so familiar with Chesterton though.

Well, Lewis was an apostate atheist, IIRC.

Whut? I thought he was v Christian?
*looks it up*
He's notable for "coming back" to Christianity, as documented in Surprised By Joy. Which the way I read it makes him a perfect icon for evangelicals.

|
|
Post by Kye on Jun 5, 2018 18:10:10 GMT
He was a more thoughtful and liberal Christian than a lot of Evangelicals I think.

Post by JoeP on Jun 5, 2018 18:28:59 GMT
Indeed; not a perfect *model* for evangelicals. I suspect he represents - to them - the idea "there are no real atheists, just people who've lost God". That might be the attraction, not what he actually said or wrote.

Post by whollygoats on Jun 5, 2018 19:35:02 GMT
Yeah....Like American Evangelicals actually read and understand anything. Especially anything about their own belief.
My understanding is that they get it spoon fed to them from the salad bar of one errant pulpit or another....

It's funny though: HArry Potter was denounced as the work of the devil because it contained magic and Narnia is okay... and it contains magic.
