I bought some - well COl did - beetroot earlier, as am trying to eat more salad and stuff. I can never decide whether I like this stuff or not. I like the tangy pickle thing it's got going on but I can't work out if I like the 'earthy' taste or not

Beetroot has one, and only one, redeeming feature. It can be used as a food colouring.

I like beets, but only boiled or roasted. I don't really like pickled beets.

I definitely don't like beetroot in pickled from from a jar. At the other extreme I do enjoy salted beetroot crisps (not as much as parsnip crisps of course). In between ... a grey-red area.

I looove pickled beetroot, especially with buttery mash. I also adore broccoli and brussels sprouts.
But coffee. I like the smell, and can get it down with milk and sugar, but there is a bitterness there I just cannot quite get around.

Coffee's bitterness is why I can only drink it with cream, not milk.

I only ever drink coffee with a lot of milk and sugar and even then not very often

Yeah, coffee's a strange one. I like coffee flavoured things, but I can't drink it.

They're making a slight comeback, but I remember being younger and walking through the part of the grocery store where people would get a bag of coffee beans and be able to use a grinder right there to make the grounds. I always loved that smell. Can't stand the beverage itself, though. I also have a memory of it being late one hot summer night when we'd driven down to visit my grandmother (a 6 hour drive away). Recognizing I was hot, she offered me some ice cream. Well, what young, sweaty kid wouldn't turn down ice cream. Unfortunately all she had was coffee-flavored ice cream. I politely had a few bites then offered it to one of my parents, before heading off to bed. It didn't ruin me on ice cream in general, but I'd make sure to ask what someone had before accepting any from then on.

I love beetroot in any form. Yum! But I am Aussie, it's practially a national vegetable here.
I also love the smell of coffee. I don't drink it much, but don't mind it to taste sometime. I also quite like coffee flavoured things like ice-cream or chocolate or a shot of Mr Black espresso liqueur.

I like coffee as well, but neber without milk and generally with sugar. We don't really have beetroot, but once we got it for our piggies. White piggies eating beetroot was fun to watch!

I can't think of any foods that I can't decide if I like or dislike. There are foods I dislike (goats cheese, lamb, rhubarb) and foods I like. There doesn't seem to be any inbetween.

I like chicken, potatoes, peas if it comes with a tasty mushroom sauce but I don't like it without a sauce because it's too dry. There must therefore be a minimal amount of sauce where I cannot decide whether I like it or not.

Mushrooms is along with onions something that I couldn't stand in my youth, but really love now.
Something like salt & vinegar crisps is very much an acquired taste, for most people not used to British food with lots of vinegar it takes several tries to start to like them. Presumably there is a phase there in between where the taste buds are adjusting but not quite there yet, when the opinion on it would be ambivalent.

I only ever remember loving salt and vinegar chips.
Maybe vegemite had a time when I was not sure if I liked it or not though. Now I like it.

Yeah took me a while to learn to like beer. Even now, frankly I'd not drink it if it were not alcoholic.

Gin and tonic are made for each other, like a horse and cart, slugs and lettuce, rhubarb and custard.

I think tonic is just fine when paired with a decent gin. But then, I think grapefruit is tasty. Gin needn't be paired with tonic. It can be paired with Collins mix, or vermouth, or even tippled neat. This is an ad for a local product, Aviation Gin, by its new owner, in typical 'Portlandia' style.

G&T's are alcoholic, and they taste good! Yes, everything unto its season. In my view, I break out the gin about the same time I break out the ice. I need to break a sweat to enjoy gin. At this time of year, I'm not thinking about gin. I just picked up two new single malt Scotches, have a sampler set of Jimmy's Irish, and I toy with my bottle of armangnac (the cognac having been extinguished last winter).
