I'll be hornswaggled.
Cheese Whiz, the infamous processed Cheddar cheese 'food' product was developed by J.L. Kraft specifically for the British market....to meet the demand for Welsh rarebit spread.
Only after being introduced in the UK was it introduced in to the US market....as a cracker spread.
Man, that's like finding out the North American P-51 Mustang fighter, the iconic American fighter aircraft of the Second World War, was designed explicitly for the Brits.

What even is Cheese Whiz?
I mean, "processed cheddar cheese cracker spread" is only a surface description. Even within the US it must have a lot more ... stuff.

At $8 for a 15oz jar (from Amazon), it's a bit expensive. The reviews suggest it's like Marmite, you either love it or hate it.
It should possible to make your own from a cheese sauce (milk, plain flour, butter, strong cheddar cheese) if you cut down on the milk.

It's not cheese. It's "cheese food".

Actually...When it was first marketed, it was mostly cheese. The point was to extend the 'shelf life' of a cheese product. His first customers were the US armed forces. Packaged food that resisted spoilage. 'Processed' cheese...processed to make it last.
In the world of fast, convenient foods, much has transpired since the introduction of Cheese Whiz. It is not the same thing any more.
I was mostly amused to find that it was developed to address the Welsh rarebit market in the UK and only introduced in the US markets as an afterthought.

I like cheese... some cheeses, not the stinky ones, but I'm not sure I'd spend money on that stuff.
