Has anyone seen this new 'horror/suspense' film? I would like your thoughts. I thought it was probably one of the better films I have seen in the genre in a long time. The director was inspired by films such as 'The Ice Storm' and 'Into the Bedroom' which themselves were fantastic slow burn family tragedy dramas.

I stay far away from anything even remotely horror-like. I get nightmares...

I abhor violence both in real life and in films, so it's not for me.

I will say this, it isn't your typical horror film. It is more a family trauma movie actually. But it is superbly done. It reminds me somewhat of "Rosemary's Baby," if that is less horror than the typical supernatural or slasher films.

Rosemary's Baby haunted me for years! I can't do those kind of movies. I have a sensitive nature...

I will say that there are no jump scares and the movie itself is not all that scary when watching it. But it is the sort where the imagery haunts you far after watching it. Much like 'The Witch' which is a fantastic film as well.

Which is why I don't watch that sort of thing. I love the Addams Family, but I've been haunted for many years (and admittedly still am sometimes) by the last scene where Thing shoots up from the grave to scare the boy. I've worried about a hand shooting up from the ground or WC to grab me. Silly, I know.

Certainly not silly at all. And it begs the question why so many people find an interest in horror. To me, I have always been drawn to the dark and macabre I suppose. I think the mystique and power of it fascinates me.

I really want to see Hereditary but I'm a bit nervous about it.
A lot of horror movies are just plain silly, but this one looks good. But then good also means scary... ๐ฎ
