So...I just came from the 'Ant Man and the Wasp' showing.
Paul Rudd as Ant Man. Evidently a follow-up on the original 'Ant Man', which I did not see.
The previous heatwave, I went to see 'The Infinity Wars' pic....left very puzzled.
The postscript of 'Ant Man and the Wasp' spiked my puzzlement.
I'm not a huge fan of Marvel, but I am half-fast in having read some of it....y'know...Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Aqua Man...
But this 'Infinity Wars' thing leaves me....puzzled.
Are there Stan Lee cultists on our little list who might be able to enlighten me?

Infinity War left me a bit puzzled as well. I would mention a few theories, but I don't want to provide any spoilers. Let's just say I don't see the franchise stopping with this one.

Yeah, well....I suspect they will "call it in".

Kinda hope they do and start creating other sorts of films.

I don't underrstand the fascination with Marvel-things. It's all so cliched and predictable. The only thing I watched and enjoyed was the X-men.

I think with the seemingly innumerable super hero films coming out, Marvel films are becoming less and less exciting.

We watched Infinity Wars as well and were left a bit... puzzled. We generally enjoy the Marvel movies, though. Will be a while before we get to see more, though.

I just (finally) watched "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (and still stuck at the cinema, but that's another story), so I have now caught up on all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
I loved it, it was very much in the same vein as the first Ant-Man, packed with humour and highly implausable but entertaining science.
I can imagine this whole film would be quite confusing without having seen the first one, and the mid-credit scene even more so without "Avengers: Infinity War" knowledge. And IW itself would be a soup without having seen the previous Avengers films. So, although they are all independent films, they are best as part of a whole.
Aquaman is not Marvel, it is DC, but they have also been trying to make superhero blockbusters, but the only even remotely good one from the DC universe recently is "Wonderwoman", not sure what they are doing wrong, I suspect they are just not being ... fun.
Can't wait for the next Avengers film, and I also have some pretty firm theories about how all that will be sorted. What seems likely is that they found a way to ensure Ant-Man won't be in that...

I haven't seen Ant Man and Wasp yet, but I really enjoyed Infinity Wars. However, I wish it had ended with that film. What a cool ending that would have been! I can only anticipate that every movie after will be disappointing because I don't see how they can recapture the buzz of Infinity War. It's like how awesome the first Avengers movie was, but not the second, even though they were very similar. The second time it's just not novel any more.

Wait, so you would maybe then also have been happy with The Empire Strikes Back being the end of the Star Wars saga, and not have the second part of that story in Return of the Jedi? Sure, Empire is the better film, but would be pretty bleak without Jedi. Avengers: Infinity War was always meant to be a two-part film, and we have only seen the first half of it.

I haven't read back in the thread, but I really loved "Agent Peggy Carter" I'm so sorry they cancelled it. I wanted to know more of her story.

I thought Infinity War had a satisfactory ending, it didn't seem bleak. Well, yes it was bleak but what's wrong with that? It seems like a good wake up call, to remind people things can end bleak. We all get swept up into this idea that everything will work out OK in the end because that's what stories tell us. I've only seen the Star Wars movies once and couldn't tell you where one ends and another starts, but not sure they're comparable anyhow. Totally differnent time, different movies. There weren't 18 other movies already in the franchise prior to Star Wars coming out.

I've given up a bit on these films with an increasing number of lead character heroes. They start to create so many sub-plots that it just feels to me like watching several films at once, none of which is complete.
