Cats licking themselves sore can be food related. Mine had a problem years ago. I also had him in a cone for quite some time for it to sort itself out as he ended up licking it because it was sore!

The cone didn't work, different food didn't work, they're not sick anymore and one of them pees in the wrong places anyway. The vet says it's not medical hence the referral.

We never had any trouble with the tree and cats, but I must admit that I take naughty cats in account when decorating by having lots of wooden decorations to go at the bottom and a bell for them to play with there, with the prettier baubles higher up in the tree.
