What are your thoughts on the Kavanaugh hearings and his recent votes for appointment to the Supreme Court of the US?

It seems to me that America has lost its sense of morality.

Well...That was the prelude.
Next comes the election.
In short, I'm disgusted and disappointed. But, that's nothing new; I've been that way since the Johnson Administration. But this is a new low. The Republican Party, aka the GOP, is now the party of sexual predators, as well as robber barons and corporate sleazebags.
This is not going to help my struggle with weeping jags.
And, tangent, I think 'America' lost its sense of morality some time back. What it is losing now is the phoney veneer which has hidden the real loss.

My thoughts are unprintable too. And I am very, very sick of the US Christian right. No, not all of them are awful - I am sure that some aren't. But some have so far lost their way that it's impossible to see how they could ever get it back again. When I see simpering Christian Right types going on about how lovely it is that Kavanagh's daughter wanted to pray for Dr Ford I could puke .. on far too many levels to explain.

I note that Kavanaugh is the reputed father of two pre-teen girls.
I suspect that karma will be visited upon papa Kavanaugh when his younger TKE frat brothers catch up with his daughters.

I saw this article on F******k and thought it apposite to this thread. Keep in mind that I was raised upon the ideals of the Founding Fathers and the Constitution. I have been heavily propagandized about all the wondrous aspects of our political system. Then, in my adulthood, I was trained to teach those same attitudes and beliefs to teenagers on the cusp of citizenship. I wouldn't even trust myself with that these days. I am so disillusioned. As the esteemed Jimmy Carter has noted, “America does not at the moment have a functioning democracy.” I fear that we will have that confirmed come November 7.

One month.
We will now see how much of what has transpired in the past month has been imprinted upon the sensibilities of those who vote.
I find the laissez faire attitude of the Congressional majority leadership to be cause for pause.....McConnell has evidently advised that the current storm of rage will blow over. Does this mean that he expects the massive amounts of money to be spent in the thirty days to convince the American public will actually do so, or they are convinced that they have sufficient control of the electoral mechanisms that they can manufacture the results they want and make it look marginally credible?
I grow more concerned with every passing report from the victim winners.

One month. We will now see how much of what has transpired in the past month has been imprinted upon the sensibilities of those who vote. Very little, I suspect. The general public will shrug its collective shoulders and move on. However, they will care a great deal if Kavanaugh prohibits abortions. The Republican party must ensure that doesn't happen before the elections.

The result of the mid-terms will be very telling. I am hoping that the "blue wave" comes, but we've already had Trump win the presidency, so I'm waiting for the result. The whole situation in America has become terribly divisive and has turned into a lot of hateful shouting on both sides, rather than anything to move things forward. Trump stirs the pot constantly to keep it going because he knows that if people are fighting amongst themselves they are not fighting him. Scandal after scandal actually works in his favour as each new one takes the attention of the previous one and tires people out.

Even then, there will be a fair amount of shouting and arm-waving. "It isn't the people who vote that count, it's the people who count the votes."

I must admit that, when I was younger and visited 'less developed' parts of the world, I harbored smug and superior feelings about the corruption in places like central Asia.
I don't feel so smug any more.
I have come to realize that not only is my country and my culture as corrupt as any I have visited, it has probably corrupted, if not actually damaged, the lives of those outside my country and my culture...without any justification other than greed and entirely misplaced righteousness. Only in maturity have I come to carry about shame about my country. Now, my disgust and dispair merely deepens.
I haz a sad.

From Forbes magazine:
Regarding the multiple ethics violation claims filed against Brett Kavanaugh, prior to the hearings. Thoses complaints have been forwarded to the 10th District of the Federal Superior Courts by Chief Justice Roberts of the Supreme Court...

This was very recent. Federal Court Districts don't seem to have active publicists flakking for them.
I have not heard what the Tenth District functionaries had to say, or how long we might expect such an investigation to take.

*sigh*
Don't pay attention to polls.
I don't care what the polls say. I have my opinion and I fully intend to express my opinion at the only poll that count, the election, when I am given the opportunity. I do not care what masses of faceless others, usually sloppily polled by those with agendas, are saying or thinking.
When contacted by pollsters, I demand payment and/or lie.
I rank pollsters on the same cultural status level as used car dealers, real estate developers, telephone marketers, and television miracle tool salespeople.

We disagree on that, but then I was awarded a prize in maths and statistics at university. I'm not going to let that go.

We disagree on that, but then I was awarded a prize in maths and statistics at university. I'm not going to let that go. Don't 'let it go'....Use it! Well, y'know....I took my degree in economics, which had a requirement of a full year of statistics, up to and including multiple regression analysis. Plus, I'd had another semester of statistics prior, as I'd attended another school. So, I do have an inkling or two. Did you know that one of the things I learned from those statistics classes? DON'T TRUST POLLS. We were regularly prompted to obtain and read WJ Reichmann's text on The Uses and Abuses of Statistics and familiarize ourselves with how statistics were frequently and regularly abused, particularly in commerce and politics. You see, I know that 72.9% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

We were regularly prompted to obtain and read WJ Reichmann's text on The Uses and Abuses of Statistics... Yes, I remember reading it. And I still use it. I made a comment on Facebook only recently about a specific statistic relating to road accidents near Macclesfield that I thought the Office of National Statistics had abused (mixing 'apples' and 'pears').
