I hear they want to take some time for themselves...maybe just try on some knit caps for the coming winter.
And, no, the forest fires are reasonably under control. All that smoke means nothing.
Wanna Timbit?

I'm guessing that Tim Horton is going to realize a windfall surge in sales over the next month.

Hey...Here in the US, I was amused when, shortly after the cannabis dispensaries opened up here, the Girls Scouts were Jenny-on-the-spot with makeshift booths selling the full selection of classic Girl Scout cookies just outside the dispensaries. And, it was reported that they were doing 'land-office business'.

Cannabis was legalized for all uses, medical and recreational, nationwide in Canuckistan, as of October 17, 2018.
As of today, all Canucks have a legal right to more than one toque.
That's all we're nattering on about.

No, it was blatantly used in the open despite being officially illegal. More so than in many places on the west coast of the US.
This is just an acknowledgement of the Canadian government of the reality of cannabis and a disconnect from the stupidity of incarcerating people for harmless escapism.
Just think of it as the end of prohibition.
Those of you who enjoy your tipple at the pub...well, this is the same thing. It is the tipple of choice of many because, for most, THERE IS NO HANGOVER. Nor does it destroy your liver or take over your life through physical addiction. Contrary to alcoholic ingestion, it for some reason does not seem to engender violent and reckless behavior. And, if you have a tiny plot of land, you can grow it in your yard.

When I was a student cannabis was everywhere - rumour had it that the police would tip off the porters before they ever did a raid and the porters would tip off the dealers who were in the same place in the common room every day and they'd just do a bunk till next day. No-one cared and really, why should they have?

For my Trampolinists I declared it National Get High Day. While the over 21s got high one way, we Tramps get High in our own way (This was my older trampolinists) I am tempted to learn how to grow it. Apparently 2 plants per person is what is allowed. I have a story about trying to get medical butter for my mother when she was in her last days with Cancer and was NOT doing well with the Morphine. Apparently there is so much differentiation in the plants now that you get to specify just which of the 200 active ingredients you want to specialize in.

Home grown is supposedly quite difficult to get right .. you need very high powered lights. I've found home grown to be pretty crap really

Well...I just grew six plants of four different strains in my backyard.
One of the strains, Gorilla Glue #4, responded quite well for me and I harvested more than a half gallon of buds two weeks back. My buddies around the table engaged in high Risk behavior all sampled my product with thumbs up all 'round. I just finished removing the dried buds off two more strains and garnered nearly another quart each. We'll see what the review are this Sunday. I did not buy a single 'high powered light'. I do have one friend who is quite the specialist at that mode and has been doing it for twenty years or more. He says what I'm growing is comparable to what is available at the dispensary....at about a tenth of the cost.
I'm happy with the result.

Yeah, well...My first trip out, I got my clones (starter plants) at the local cannabis outlet. limited choice, y'know. By year three, they had bowed out and I had to find a clone supplier. I found two and the number of clones that were available....I was flabbergasted. I had to ask about which plants were rated better for outdoors, as versus 'electric'. It is currently mind-boggling the number of strains which are available. What is also mind-boggling is the market glut. The average ounce runs in the realm of $350, and is sold in quantities down to a gram. The discount is presently running at $395 per pound, meaning that ounces sell for $25. Also available are edibles and oils, but they are pricier. You can now cook your breakfast eggs and cannaboil and start your day off right.
Moved on ain't half right. Funny what happens when you cut away artificial constraints. I feel like an 'old fart' these days with my toking habits. Y'know, crudely jamming sticks and leaves in a tiny bowl and setting fire to it just inches from my bearded face?

I am, but it's never been legal. It's been officially ignored. "Gedoogbeleid" is the official term. Growing your own is still very much illegal and is not ignored. Possessing and using is illegal and ignored. They're having a trial with official growers for the coffeeshops here in the Netherlands (the coffeeshops actually had to import from abroad), so we are moving towards legalization, but we aren't there yet. At all.

At all. Yeah. I just read the wiki piece on it. It has been 'decriminalized', not legalized. I was not aware of the fine points of the issue. I had been to Amsterdam and enjoyed the 'coffeehouses' during my visit, back in the early 1990s and was aware it was a kind of 'what you do in the privacy of your own home (or the coffeehouse) is your business and not the state's' official attitude that went with it. That qualified as 'legal' in my mind, living in total prohibition at home at the time. But, I see and understand the distinctions. The situation here is better than that. What we have is effective legalization, for both medical and recreational uses of cannabis. It is controlled and taxed by the state and sale to minors is prohibited, just like alcohol, only sale of distilled alcohol is a state monopoly and cannabis is a state-regulated market with crowds of various actors. Me? I'm a home-grower who wants to grow for my own use. Like a home brewer, home vintner, or home distiller. It is still illegal on the federal level, but enforcement authorities have been directed to de-emphasize cannabis enforcement.
