Very Monty Python-esque.

Well that was different. You have donuts, ice-cream and grizzly bearded dudes, a mountain and terrible music?

Well that was different. You have donuts, ice-cream and grizzly bearded dudes, a mountain and terrible music? Heh...Yeah. That's a bigfoot, the local variation on the theme of abominable snowman (and 'lumbersexuals', big on beards and flannel shirts, are ubiquitous). I'm surprised they didn't do the kilt-wearing Darth Vader playing the flaming bagpipes whilst unicycling - the Unipiper. It's both real and bizarre enough to be included. It is a 'foodie' city, in that tourists come here to imbibe of the 'cart food' and the novelties like Voodoo Donuts. Those are all trendy. The bridges and the mountain in the background are all much older than a lot of the food-oriented stuff. The stag sign and the Old Town water tower are still icons. There is a rubber ducky race on the river, as well as concerts galore at riverside, that have been around longer than the relatively recent food scene. And, the 'Keep Portland Weird' thing, which is on many bumperstickers locally, was stolen from Austin, Texas.

Okay...Same shit, different perspective. I like drum tattoos, so I enjoyed this. While this one is less 'marketing' and more snark, but reasonably accurate. While this is somebody's idea of ten of the more than 79 neighborhoods are the better, as places to live. My neighborhood, Richmond, made this list. Although several of the toniest neighborhoods have been left out, he hit several high spots. His #1 is Hillsdale, on the other side of town, in the Tualatin Mountains (aka 'the West Hills'), and is where my SIL and niece live. They are the 'hillbillies who live on an inherited property that's been in the family for generations' who spoil the ambiance in his #1 neighborhood. So, heh... Otherwise, his typifications are, in my mind, acceptable and the videos are very representative.

This is Kamouraska, where my daughter and her intended will be moving in July. It's very pretty --but you have to ignore the cheesy music.

Excellently aurally overdone, but lovely bucolic setting. Pastoral. This is in Quebec, then?
ETA: Ah, yes. I've been through that area on the train. It was at night, though, so I really didn't see much until the next morning in New Brunswick.

It's well known in Quebec for being a very pretty town. It's quite touristy in the summer in a granola kind of way. Winters are also pretty, but brutal.

It is pretty! I went to look for something Melbourne and after a super cheesy one that sounds like it's played on the skybus from the airport, I came across this video which doesn't showcase Melbourne but has some travel tips which I thought were amusing (accurate too). youtu.be/MubhDwveWPE

Yes, that's what I hear. They (whoever they are) always recommend to Melbournians to go to Portland.

Pat's maternal grandfather used to live in the original Melbourne, the one in Derbyshire. When Richard was last over here, we visited the town so that he could establish his roots.

We were almost called Batmania, thank goodness in the end we didn't because the guy behind that name was a right arsehole.

I had no idea there was a Melbourne in the UK. Presumably that's how Melbourne, Australia got its name. The Melbourne in Derbyshire, or the one in Yorkshire? Like many Wellingtons, it could have been named after one of the holders of the title, the Lambs. Peniston, William, or Frederick Lamb were each a Viscount of Melbourne (First, Second, & Third) during the right period. A wiki search raised a finding that it was named after the second of the lot, William, who managed to serve as PM during Vicky's reign. Evidently, he was the last PM to be dismissed by the crown for doing a crappy job (but he was reappointed six months later and served six more years).

The Melbourne in Derbyshire, or the one in Yorkshire? The one in York is just a handful of houses. Melbourne, Derbyshire appears to claim the connection to the Australian city. We called in to see the hall when we visited the Derbyshire town and were given a tour of the grounds.

I didn't think it would be all that enlightening to post a video of London in general. Woodford Green is my area of London and I recognise all the places in the video - although the road is no longer designated the A11 as newer and bigger roads have been built.
I learnt from this that Woodford Green Cricket Club is one of the oldest in the country!
Cool to see the unveiling of the Winston Churchill statue. I was there earlier today and smashed it (Miisa will understand what I mean).

Yes. JoeP. That is an interesting film of your town of Woodford Green.
There were many interesting things.
I liked all the horsechestnuts planted along the streets...that must make a big mess in the fall, huh?
zzzzzz....

It was reminiscent of many hours held captive in a stuffy darkened classroom with a teacher who relied upon 'educational films' to fill unplanned time.
