I had nearly half a tray today, lightly fried. Yummy.

I always thought they were absolutely vile - not sure what changed Had more today.

Plain button mushrooms, overcooked without any extra flavour, and then cooled off, are slimy and gross.
There are so many other ways to do mushrooms well though.

The variety of mushroom makes a lot of difference too. Cheap supermarket button mushrooms are awful compared with varieties costing somewhat more.

I don't like shrooms. The taste is okay, but it has a horrible texture.

More for me! (P.S. - I'm pretty sure that over-sauted mushroom bits are a constituent element of the BCB that Sam Vimes natters on about.)

I love mushrooms! Especially on pizza or with lots of pecorino in a delicious pasta. Yum yum yum!
I did think this was going to be a thread about a LOTR re-read though.

I did think this was going to be a thread about a LOTR re-read though. That's an entirely valid point.

I started a re-read. I'm going slowly though. I started reading the prologue to the cats, they didn't seem that thrilled. When I read to them in Slovak (a story about a dog who keeps hearing someone meowing and tries to discover who), they were very interested.

I had more mushrooms yesterday and the day before. We were mutually pleased with one another.

I wonder if your body is craving some nutritional foodstuff.

I used to think mushrooms felt and tasted like slugs. I'm OK with them now, but they're still not my favourite and I still hate the ones in jars and tins.

I can understand hating the texture, but how do you know what slugs taste like?

I think you have to heat up the slugs and add a generous helping of garlic butter. I had some slugs once in a restaurant in Dusseldorf. Or maybe they were snails.

A snail is merely a slug with a mobile home.

Serious question .. DO any cultures eat slugs? If not why not, when people eat snails?

I thought mushrooms had little nutritional value beyond some calories. Least that's what Ray Mears said, that it's not worth risking eating mushrooms for survival since their nutritional value is so low and the risk of killing yourself so high.
Australian Aboriginal people eat witchetty grubs.

Black South Africans eat mopane worms. In fact you can buy them dried.

I once experienced cardboard. A few days after radiotherapy knocked out my taste buds, I bought a beefburger in Buxton Park. But I threw it away after eating half of it because 'it tasted like cardboard'. I've never eaten cardboard but now I know what it tastes like
