I was making sandwiches earlier and Tink jumped off something and splatted down in the creme fraiche, with the result that he splatted a lot of it over himself.
I've never seen him happier.
I was not happy.

That is a fair question.

Creme fraiche is not even sold in the US. It must be a banned product....probably tariffed in to obscurity. Or, it was deemed a threat to public health.
We have to use sour cream, instead.

You don't get Creme fraiche there? It's available in grocery stores here.

I have never seen it. Never.
And...You do live in Montreal. There is that.
I'm beginning to suspect that the English text on the creme fraiche probably says, 'sour cream'.

Hmmm....Well, evidently I have never seen it because I don't enter WalMart.
According to my search for where I could buy 'creme fraiche' in the US, Google sent me to the WalMart site. There, for two 8 oz. containers, it is only $53. Considering that every other site about where one can obtain creme fraiche tends to launch in to a diatribe about what you can use as an alternative, which is 'sour cream', I think I'll stick to using plain old sour cream, which sells at the local market for $3.79 for 14 ounces. The sites warn that sour cream is 'a little more sour' than creme fraiche. Big fucking whoop....for a savings of nearly $50, I can live with 'a little more sour'.
Cheeses....They must sell that creme fraiche to the 1% elite. Who'd a thunk they'd be trundling around WalMart?
Oop....At $52.95, it's not in stock. The elite rabble must have snatched them all up. I guess one has to put in a request for an 'in stock alert' to know when they can blow an inordinate amount of money on an insanely priced product which is only marginally differentiated from a very cheap and readily available dairy product.
And, why does WalMart list it in their Beauty and Hair Care Products?

Aside regarding 'beauty products'...
I love Dolly Parton's comment, "You'd be surprised how much it costs to look this cheap."

Mmmmmm...Yum. Spread that on your sammich, Moosie. And...It's cheaper than the food product! .....No, wait....It's only 50 ml, not even 2 oz. www.walmart.com/ip/Cream-Fresh-Creme-Fraiche-2-pack-8-oz-each/344962971I looked at the tub a mite more closely this time....it is 'hand made' in Vermont (just south and across the border from Farther Kye!) and it is clearly a dairy product rather than a beauty product. (Unless, of course, in Vermont they keep their beauty products in the dairy case....Spoilage, y'know?) I'm gonna guess that Ben & Jerry have a side hustle. Maybe they advertise it in the beauty products as a 'furtive marketing ploy'? I love all the hair coloring and hair care products displayed around it....like, if you buy this, then you'll be interested in these. Yeah...I guess that follows. If you'd spend $53 on sour cream, then you'd be right in that market segment. I know IGA! They are a very minor chain out here. They tend to the more 'rural' areas.

Walmart bought Asda in 1999 ... that's longer ago that I thought. Mind you I was living in South Africa at the time and not paying attention.

So...Do your local toffs trundle around ASDA? No, that would be Waitrose. ASDA is at the low end of the market. If you live near an ASDA store, you can expect your house price to be reduced by 1%. Sainsbury's want to buy ASDA, but the competition authorities won't let them.

Or, is it like here, where they just change the labeling and then double the price?

Waitrose? Do they have better creme fraiche at Waitrose? Or, is it like here, where they just change the labeling and then double the price? I'm sure it's better ... for some values of better. They also have quite a range: this is what I get from a search for 'creme fraiche': Waitrose crème fraîche 200ml £1.15 (57.5p/100ml) Waitrose half fat crème fraîche 200ml £1.15 (57.5p/100ml) Yeo Valley Half Fat Organic Crème Fraîche 200g £1.05 (52.5p/100g) Waitrose French crème fraîche 500ml £2.50 (50p/100ml) Waitrose half fat French crème fraîche 500ml £2.50 (50p/100ml) essential Waitrose Reduced Fat British Crème Fraîche 300ml £1.15 (38.3p/100ml) essential Waitrose Low Fat British Crème Fraîche £1.15 (38.3p/100ml) Isigny Ste Mère crème fraîche d'Isigny 20cl £1.60 (80p/100ml) By comparison, only 4 items for 'sour cream' itself: essential Waitrose soured cream 150ml 70p (46.7p/100ml) essential Waitrose soured cream 300ml £1.15 Price per unit (38.3p/100ml) essential Waitrose half fat soured cream 300ml £1.15 (38.3p/100ml) Yeo Valley Soured Cream 200g £1.00 (50p/100g) but then pages of sour cream flavoured products, mostly crisps.
