So last year I took some cuttings off my MIL’s roses and to our astonishment they actually grew. Now there’s a bud on one - how exciting! But stupidly we didn’t label any of them so I have absolutely no idea what type of rose or colour it is. So... EF guessing game. What colour will it be? Winner gets to... win.
I reckon 4/1 red or yellow. 8/1 pink. 10/1 white. 20/1 orange or peach. 50/1 purple or variegated.
I’ll try and post a photo of the bud if I can work out how.

Prompted by her mum, a young child gave a couple of roses to her granny one day. The granny was delighted and asked if she knew their names. The young girl thought for a while and then decided, "you can them Peter and Jane."

So...While we wait for your outcome, I could add mine.
I have 14 roses in my garden. They are all now in first leaf and several are showing buds for flowers. We could go for a winner there, too.
Lessee, there's
#1 - 'Touch of Class', a melon pink grandiflora, #2 - 'Baby Talk', a dusty pink floribunda, #3 - 'Pacali', a white hybrid, #4 - 'Summer Fashion', a peach grandiflora, #5 - 'Sunflare', a yellow floribunda, #6 - 'Sweet Surrender', a soft fragrant pink grandiflora, #7 - 'Olympiad', a red grandiflora, #8 - 'Honor', a white grandiflora, #9 - 'Queen Elizabeth', a clear pink grandiflora, #10 - 'Iceberg', a white floribunda, #11 - 'Double Delight', a very fragrant white with red trim hybrid, #12 - 'French Lace', an apricot pink grandiflora, #13 - 'Cecile Brunner', a pink fairy rose (climbing polyantha), and #14 - 'Alba', a white rugosa.
Off to the races?
It looks like a race card for a track, no?
Anybody want to select blind? Or, do you want to know those with visible buds?

I have 3 roses. One is an ugly pink, but it's a glorious bush. Another is white and the third I have no clue. It appeared behind a bush we removed when emptying the garden to prepare for the work we're doing.

Oooo....I'm going to bet that the 'have no clue' turns out to be a muddy dark red. It's the most common rootstock they use for most hybrid tea roses, which are grafted at the bud union. So, when the top dies, and the root stock survives, it reverts to its original form to flower.
I have friends posting up photos of their fresh, new rose blooms. These are precocious. The usual bloom is a month in the future.

Well, in the Ravenswood Derby, coming around the first corner, #5 Sunflare is in the lead, with #4 Summer Fashion close behind. Grouped behind the two leaders are #2 Baby Talk, #10 Iceberg, and #6 Sweet Surrender. Behind them, #9 Queen Elizabeth and #1 Touch of Class have a chance at show, but the rest seem hopelessly behind with no buds showing.

It's on the back stretch and although #5 Sunflare is still in the lead, it's only by a nose over #4 Summer Fashion, but #6 Sweet Surrender is coming on strong against the duo in the lead. Way back, it looks like #8 French Lace finally woke up, but I doubt it even has an outside chance to show.

Then he blamed me for not planting it somewhere else... *rolls eyes* I think it will survive, though I'm not sure about the one I transplanted.

So...In the Ravenswood Rose Derby, the leaders have rounded the far corner and the near corner and are headed down the home stretch. It is #5 Sunflare is still in the lead with three sepals back and the petals curling, it's only by a nose over #4 Summer Fashion, which has two sepals out and petal curling. Then, #6 Sweet Surrender is back behind the leaders and losing way, particularly with the surprise surge of underrose #2 Baby Talk, which as it rounded the final curve was tucked in just behind #5 Sunflare and nose to nose with #4 Summer Fashion. It looks like it might be a photo finish!!! ^ #5 Sunflare ^ #2 Baby Talk ^ #4 Summer Fashion ^ #6 Sweet Surrender

I love the summer fashion. Gorgeous colours. My large one looks like the strong pink one, but mine's a creeper. I don't like the colour, but it's a glorious bush, so I'm not complaining.

And....We have a winner in the Ravenswood Rose Derby! And it is #2 Baby Talk, which crossed the finish line early this morning by producing this bloom: It was a come from behind win for Baby Talk. By constrast, the presumptive place winner, #5 Sunflare, who led for nearly the entire race, looked like this:

NEWS FLASH!! #14, the Rosa rugosa 'Alba' has, as a complete dark horse, snatched the second Place in the Derby. It's an upset. Alba is the only rose out front, rather than in the back garden. It is also a rather unique specimen as a rosa rugosa, also known as the 'tomato rose' because of its lush foliage. It is difficult to prune because of its thousands of fine spiny thorns, but relatively immune to most of the usual rose afflictions. It is probably one of the best sources of rose hips for medicinals and herb teas.

Yes, I believe 'City Lights', my premiere bloomer this year, is listed as a 'rebloomer'. I did have a white iris named 'Immortality' which actually rebloomed on me. Once. I think I have since lost all of those to the depredations of slugs.
