I need a new AC unit for my condo. And a new toilet.

If you have to choose, I suggest the toilet should be your priority

I need a new AC unit for my condo. And a new toilet. I need a new toilet in my older store. Also, need a new AC unit in my newer store. It has three and the middle one keeps freezing up.

Doing these repairs is one of the reasons I can't think about retiring

I've forgotten but are you living in church property? If so can't they fix it?

Nope. I live in my own condo so all repairs are my responsibility.

I would ask whether God could fix it but that might be inappropriate of me

Well. But if you like what you do, retirement might not always be a good idea despite needing more income from working. But I guess the question is do you like doing what you do?

I do like what I do, but I don't have the same kind of energy for it that I had 10 years ago. I don't want to sell my dear people short and give them less than they deserve

Do they love you? Is there a way to do it part time once retirement comes?

Post by Kye on Aug 30, 2023 15:59:20 GMT
Yes, they love me and don't want to lose me. I'll probably go to 3/4 time after Christmas if nothing changes before then. It's not ideal though, for a parish to have part-time ministry

Well that may be so but everything is possible if worked properly.

Perhaps shared part-time ministry is an option? Here it's very normal to have that construction. Ideally they match an older parttimer with a younger one. They do the same in primary schools. It's sometimes also an option for the one wanting a full-time job to do 2 part-time jobs thus creating one full-time one.

Yeah, shared ministry is certainly something that's done in our diocese, but only in the more remote areas. The city parishes are all one point parishes. I'm not willing to go out to the country though!

I can imagine, but you could suggest it to your diocese for your situation as well. Who knows, you may start a city tradition here Is it easy to find ministers/priests in Canada? I know our churches have a hard time getting new people to join the ministry.

I know a priest who is looking for a part time job, but I wouldn't trust her with my gang... Plus, at the moment my parish is pretty strapped for cash, so they're hoping to make do with part time ministry anyway

Oh no. That bad not to trust her. Yikes. The though that some seem like bad apples.

There's nothing wrong with her -- in fact we're good friends. It's just not a good match

I love the fact that you care so much about your parishioners. They are seriously lucky.

Aww-- thanks, Jo! It's not hard to love them. There's a passage in the Anglican Morning Prayer liturgy that always makes me happy: "O God who art the author of peace and lover of concord, whose service is perfect freedom..." My service to my people feels like perfect freedom
