While exploring buttons (something not everyone should do, I know) I see one in the personal messages screen called "backup messages". It results in this:
Does this work for anyone?
It's vitally important that I back up the two and a half personal messages I have here.

I get the same error.
You will just have to print them out and keep them in a safe for future blackmailing purposes.

I don't have a single personal message! How unpopular I've become. I remember when my inbox used to be full of them. Back in the days when I used to flirt before DG smote me with his charm.

Hmm well, it works a bit further. At least it doesn't produce an obnoxious error message. But almost worse: it promises success and doesn't deliver.
It says personal messages will be added to a queue for processing (I have no idea why it doesn't just do it straight away, it's hardly going to slow down the server), then delivered as a zip file in another PM, usually within 2 minutes.
Nothing has arrived.
No luck trying again because "You can only backup your personal messages once every 30 days." (again, no idea why there should be such a limitation)

I am popular again! Don't let it get to my head. I am just a soft fruit after all.

Do PMs hurt? Do they bruise you?

Only if I fall off my chair with excitement.
I am sitting safely on the couch now. It's hard to fall off.

I suspect it requires some freeforums personnel to manually flick some switches somewhere, which is why it is taking more than 2 minutes and why you can't do it too often.

I suspect the switch is set to 'off', because it's been more than 24 hours.
Nothing in your highly secret admin control panels about this?

Nope, but adminJo has features the rest of us can only dream about, maybe she does.

The button that just says "Don't".

It's vitally important that I back up the two and a half personal messages I have here. You specifically don't want half of one message? *wonders if it is half of anything I've sent* *feels guilty as still hasn't replied to last PM from Joe*

Oh wait... I just read it again. You're saying you've only had two and a half messages on here... *light slowly going on*....you're being sarcastic...
I'll get my coat.

That was a long time ago, Juju! I probably had only a few messages then, and one of them may just been a (so not really being sarcastic) I have plenty of PMs now ;D

Sounds riveting. Need to pick up my daughter fro tennis, and then cram both lunch and dinner into 3½ hours before my son goes to his practise and then finish the cleanup of the cleanup of their room.
