941 781 But what's the shortcut for only a mildly confused face?

I learnt a new word today, aphantasia, "the inability to form mental images of objects that are not present". It is linked to the difficulty in recognising faces. I believe I am moderately aphantasic.

941-776 I slipped on mud last week and hurt my knee, wrists and neck. Though I felt better than expected yesterday, today my wrist decided to quit working after all. Stupid wrist.

Sadly, wrist injuries are all too common after a fall.

Have you got your eclipse glasses ready, Kye?
Oh no, you're in Ecuador.

941 773 Our MP, William Wragg, has resigned from being a Conservative MP in the House of Commons. He is now an Independent. The general population who watch the British news will probably know why. I don't know him but he is well respected locally in Marple. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68773702

941 769 Many websites contain a chatbot that aims to help you buy their goods. "Chat to us now," they say, sometimes presenting you with a list of obvious questions. Are you wanting to (a) buy a house, (b) sell a house, (c) rent a house, or (d) something else? When you respond with, "I want to speak to a real person," they reply with, "I'm sorry, I didn't understand your question." You get the idea. This afternoon I met a chatbot of a different kind. A real person pretending to be a chatbot They gave all the symptoms of an automated dumb chatbot but this one was actually a real person. (Or perhaps it was a tailor-made AI.) Anyway, I wrote a 100-word essay of what was wrong with their advert, all in one post, only for a real person to answer within seconds, thanking me for pointing it out and trying to make sure their future adverts were clear. Then came the usual, "Did I answer your question?" and "Is there anything else I can help you with?" It threw me completely!

Ho hum, it's not every day you have to phone 999 for an ambulance. A friend fell on her bedroom floor, banged her head and couldn't move for two hours. She's been taken to hospital with a suspected broken hip.

941767 Ouch! What's the prognosis?
I slipped and fell in the mud last week. Now my knee looks like someone bit it: the bruises are exactly like someone's upper teeth around my knee cap.

She has a broken hip and is expected to stay in hospital for two weeks. She also has low blood pressure which could have caused her dizzy spells and feinting attacks.
The CT scan of her head didn't find any brain cells anything wrong.
She had an operation this afternoon to pin the break in the femur. It was a complicated break but she has come through alright. She was bleary eyed after the operation but became animated when she saw her two girls and one of the girl's boy friend.

941765 A complicated break will take more time to recover from, but being animated when she sees family is a good sign

941764 Sigh... When pulling down the wallpaper in my daughters' rooms pretty much the whole wall came down. So instead of a quick change of wallpaper, we first need to stabilise the wall and create an even underground. I found emergency sleepover addresses for the kids so they don't have to sleep in a dusty room with holes, but this is not what I had in mind...

941761 Yeah, yay for previous owners just doing stuff without knowing what on earth they're doing. But after some thorough checking it's mostly plastering that's come off with some filler mortar and the actual bricks and wood are still okay.

Well, at this point the only thing about this century old house that isn't new, is the wooden floor in the bedrooms... They even had to completely replace the roof bearings and beams instead of just putting new insulation and tiles on as originally planned.

41 meters is very deep for a garden, Mari. We can only dig down about a foot before we hit a lot of stones.

941754 Oh, you don't refer to how far the garden goes back as the depth of a garden? My bad. So would you say length?

I hate government forms. Pat had to renew her driving licence and we both thought applying online would be the quickest way. We were wrong. They wanted to know:
Her address Date of birth Where she was born Maiden name Mother's maiden name Passport number How long she had lived at our current address National insurance number Telephone number Daytime telephone number Favourite colour
OK not that last one but right at the end they told her she couldn't apply online because they couldn't use her passport photo! It took us a good half hour to find and type in all of the information. Finally, she resorted to the form they had sent her, expecting to have to jump through hoops again, but they didn't want any of that information. Not one item. It took her all of two minutes to fill it in. And no photo. Gah!
