23! Good Heavens! If you figure six per load One HOUR, then one hour for drying (last load being 5), that's 4 hours there. Then you press and iron the last five that takes another 1 hour.
That's a days work almost. 5 Hours or more.

That's okay. Ironing is almost never done here at least!

I try to buy clothing that does not require ironing at all. It drives me nuts. Plus I'm not very good at it, I mean what do I look like June Cleaver?

I haven't ironed anything since I started living on my own. In fact, I received an iron as a gift for my birthday last year and it still hasn't left its box.

I've hardly ever used my iron... try and hug me though and I'll find a use for it!

Oh, you are wonderful, I could hug you. You are permitted. How is it possible to live without ironing things?

I don't think I've ironed anything in 10 years.

What's this? Soppiness in the Gruesome thread? What will people think!! I did threaten violence with an iron, if that balances it at all!

Yes, on balance it does.
Difficult day today with the water engineer here to sever the heating connection to the rear extension and disconnect the service to the washroom. Also had to relocate the washing machine to the kitchen prior to demolition of present utility area. All possessions now removed ... only the potting shed to dismantle and I will be all set for the builder's arrival on Monday. Though builder is not quite the right word, somehow, as all the work for the first few weeks is about knocking down and digging up.

The rear extension is starting to disappear ... slow evaporation, you might say.

We use remodeler instead of builder. Is that possibly what you where trying to say Fr. Gruesome?

That is a nice way of putting it ... although they will in the end be doing some actual building. At the moment they are still rending assunder, third skip arrived this morning the other two having gone away with about 4m/3 of rubble in each.

At least they are not just turning your house into an expensive rock garden!

That I am grateful for.
Tomorrow they start digging the trenches for casting the footings for the new walls ... that will start to make it feel like progress instead of regress!

Trenches all dug, pit for new drainage connections made ... now they just need a little trench for the rain-water drain to run to a soak-away. Maybe on Monday?

Building inspector arrived first thing this morning and signed off the entrenchments: concrete pouring tomorrow morning! Yippee ... or (according to my bank account), ouch.

That will do it. But you pay them ahead of time?

Fortnightly in arrears once the architect has certified the work as satisfactory: this should work out as five similar payments over six payment periods ... there will be one blank for Christmas/New Year. 5% retained at the end until the architect is sure that everything is as it should be, so the final payment will be in mid-March.

All drainage and concrete work completed, the groundwork sub-contractors are packing their kit and heading off to their next assignment at the end of today. They have been so tidy and considerate that it has been a pleasure to have them on site for the three weeks. The floor slab was cast yesterday and has gone off nicely overnight. There will be a bit of a lull tomorrow and then the bricklayers will arrive Monday morning for the week.
