#Nice one Colin, nice one son. Nice one Colin, let's have another one!# That reminds me of the song I sing when driving on my motorbike along the main 40mph road towards work... (To the tune of Skip to my lou) #Let's all drive through the speed camera... Let's all drive through the speed camera... Let's all drive through the speed camera... ...at 25 miles per hour!#

It looks Photoshopped in the picture, but it does in real life, too! I used to go passed it regular when my son was at university.

Now, if you tried to build a steeple like that on purpose can you imagine the difficulty you would have?

These days, I expect architects would not have so much trouble. Making it straight so it went like that would be hard, still.

What, that? Might be too big to fly to the moon.

Fly me to the moon and let me sing among the stars, let me see what Spring is like on Jupiter and Mars!

I hesitate to mention it but the knee that had surgery five years ago is starting to play up again: I have a lot of pain from it and can only walk slowly - off to the hospital for x-rays on Monday ...

That doesn't sound good. I hope it's an easy fix, FrG.

You understand better than most!
Now, on a more cheerful note, today is the commemoration of the Baptism of Our Lord, so the quiz question for today is:
What are the two things that connect John the Baptist and Winnie the Pooh?

Did both eat honey?

Yes we got there - honey (and locusts in JtB's case) plus the same middle name ... John T. Baptist may have been vegetarian - the word from locust is only one letter away from the greek word for pancake ... pancakes and wild honey is a much more attractive idea, though my old mate who has really eaten locust says they are a little bit like prawn, only much bigger.

Locusts would be a plentiful food source if only we could catch them. I have an plan to use a bank of lasers to shoot them down into waiting vats of burning oil thereby solving much of Africa's food problem if only I could get an investor with plenty of money.

... tennis nets work quite well to start with ... until the locusts eat the string ... my father was once stationed in a semi-permanent camp near the Nile. When they returned to base on the day when the locusts had flown over, all fabric elements of the camp had been consumed - leaving iron bedsteads on concrete squares. Tents are yummy, apparently.

Well here is a turn up for the book ... I had kind of assumed that I was probably the first ordained person in the family - I know that I am in my branch of it - but it seems that I am not. I met a Dutch gentleman at a recent funeral for one of my railway pals who has now sent me a photo of the street in the eastern Netherlands that is named for someone who was the (Dutch Reformed) Minister of the parish church for 39 years. Different branch of the family but still nice to know about.

I am going to be seeing the doctor later to get my Xray results: my knee is much less painful and the view now is that it may be the onset of osteo-arthritis. If so the treatment is straightforward and non-invasive. I have been using an anti-inflamatory gel three times a day which seems to work really well - so much so that I have forgotten to use it a couple of times over the weekend because the pain level is so much lower. Yippee!

Not very likely at the best of times!
I am purging my bookshelves. I have decided to get rid of anything over twenty years old - unless it is over seventy years old - and also the books for things that I am not realistically going to need again. The effect has been to improve the appearance of my study no end because newer books have more interesting bindings and so the shelves now look more colourful ... and the books are not double stacked anymore either!

I could never get rid of books! Neither do my parents. When they had the fire in their house, a company had to take everything out for a professional cleaning. They had never seen so many books in one private household.

The removals men were amazed at how much stuff I had in my tiny flat! They said that I had the most stuff they'd ever seen in such a small space and more than a lot of people had in a house!

I have to say that I am not enjoying the book disposal but I have to be realistic with a move beginning to look increasingly likely, the presbytery is under offer-in-principle, and I will make sure that the books go to good homes.

If you had enough books you could have built a new home.
