Near extinction! scottishwildcats.co.uk/The Scottish wildcat must be subspecies of the European wildcat (Felis silvestris). Any Scottish or British people who know more about this "Highland tiger" (http://www.highlandtiger.com/about_highland_tiger.asp)? Do people generally know about this cat and think it should survive? (It looks rather fierce, a chihuahua would be a morsel for this cat.)

- From the wildcat's point of view: I doubt if they care whether they are pure or hybrid.
- From Homo sapiens point of view: we are so bad at looking after the planet, we don't deserve to keep them.

I really suck at posting pictures here, they never show in the right place.
I imagine the half bred wildcats are not as good hunters as the purebred.
I remember the sad story of the she-wolf Ylva in Sweden. Single wolves go long ways to find a mate. But poor Ylva (as the papers called her) did not find any male wolf. A male dog would have to do (ususally wolves kill any dogs they meet). So Ylva had halfbred puppies. The authorities saw to it that both Ylva and her puppies were killed. No hybrides wolf-dog allowed in Sweden. They were afraid the wolf genes would be wated down.
