Frank had to take Mr. You to the vet again yesterday. One of his teeth was too long- again! How did the vet treat it? Cut it off or filed it down? If the vet did that to my teeth, I wouldn't be pleased.

If he gave you a piece of wood to gnaw on to keep your teeth in check would you be pleased?
(Cotton reels used to be the thing, but I suppose they're all plastic now.)

Probably more so than having my teeth filed down.

Mr.You's teeth were cut off and filed down. He is alrightn but he refuses to chew on wood. He just eats the dry food.

It seems strange that the vet can do this when we yelp in pain at the slightest filling.

I don't think they have the same kind of nerves in their teeth as we have in ours.

Poor Spotty!
(Kaylee I think Canadians, like Americans, sometimes use "guy" to refer to females as well as males!)

Thanks Joe, I didn't know that. The vet said the abscess might come back and if it comes back too often, we might have to start thinking about what kind of a life she can have and what quality of life and when we should let her go because she can't have surgery every few weeks - that's not a life for a guinea-pig. But for now, we are hoping the surgery is going to work. If she was older, it wouldn't bother me quite as much, but at her age, she is just too young to die.

In Canada, girls will call each other guys when no males are present, but if it's mixed company it would be girls and guys, with the guys being the males. If I had known Spotty was a female, I'd probably have said "Poor little girl" or "Poor little thing".
I hope this surgery is a one off!

I agree, I hope it is straight forward.

We really hope so as well. Plus, it's beginning to get expensive. It doesn't get us in trouble exactly, but keeps us from saving anything up and we have to postpone a few things. Although that isn't the first thing we think of when it comes to our piggies' health and the surgery is only 75 €, including everything we will need to take care of the wounds at home. We are lucky with that vet.

I don't think they have the same kind of nerves in their teeth as we have in ours. My canines (?) often get filed when at the dentists. They are really sharp and I've hurt myself with them before.

Mr. You will need to be taken to the vet again to have his teeth done.

Spotty is still doing well and her wound is healing nicely. The vet is on holiday until July 14th. Not sure if we can wait that long with Mr. You.

Perhaps a very stupid idea, but can't you just take the polishing stone and scrape it against his teeth if he doesn't want to do it himself?

I'd be afraid of losing a finger that way!

He definitely wouldn't like it. Would take ages as well.
