Interestingly. Just made history today. First Ebola case ever to have gotten it within our country. First person to catch it here on our soil.

What we are being told is that there is a second nurse with Ebola in the states and that the authorities are trying to contact every passenger of the flight she was on. Now that is a cause for concern If the authorities feel that just being on the same aircraft constitutes a health threat

What I'd like to know.... What about the places she went. She had to eat somewhere. She drank out of a glass and a waitress had to clean up the table. The waitress touched other glasses and plates that she was serving. Maybe, a grocery store or boutique. They virus can live along time on objects according to them. Now they are confused with how they got it and are not sure anymore. Go figure.

The Ebola virus does apparently not live long outside its host (which is actually one thing that makes it difficult to study), and people are only contagious when they are in the active sick phase. It only spreads through bodily fluids, the problem is that Ebola tends to make there be bodily fluids all over when someone is sick with it.

That's what I thought but this business of trying to contact a whole plane full of passengers seems to go against it.

The Ebola virus does apparently not live long outside its host. Two hours has been suggested, see Link. What we are being told is that there is a second nurse with Ebola in the states and that the authorities are trying to contact every passenger of the flight she was on. Wikipedia thinks this may be unnecessary. On the other hand, if she had used the toilet, there would be a case for contacting all of the passengers.

Not exactly, she had an elevated temperature of 99.5°F but did not have a fever ( link). She monitored her own temperature and rang the airline to check whether she could fly. "I don't think we actually said she could fly, but they didn't tell her she couldn't fly," a health official told the New York Times. "She called us... I really think this one is on us."

What isn't on us? Know one seems to know what the left hand is doing from the right hand.

The news that we are getting is that the vaccine is derived from the tobacco plant. This explains why nurses are getting Ebola. Nurses, as a professional body, contain a much lower than average number of smokers. So it is no surprise to me that nurses are getting Ebola. On the other hand, I'm a regular 20 a day smoker. I have never had even a suggestion of Ebola. It is clear to me that the healthy thing for any right minded person to do is to grab a pack of Benson and Hedges and light up. As yet the WHO has not even recommended this. What are they playing at?

I saw the WHO's Director General on BBC Newsnight on Friday and I am convinced he could not open a packet of cigarettes if he tried.

We had a potential ebola patient but the nurse turned out clear. She had a raised temperature after coming back from SL I think it was.

I've just come back from my Mum's, bless her at 91 she needs a lot of help around the house, one of the things I did was to collect her mail from the mat and help her with it. One of the letters was a really dodgy appeal from a so-called charity begging for funds for Ebola victims in Africa. Now there may be many totally legitimate charities focusing on this, but this one wasn't even spelled correctly. My old darling gives regularly to a number of charities each month and she does seem to end up on the mailing lists of some very dodgy outfits. It' makes me very angry when the wide boys in this world start cashing in on disease to fleece soft hearted old darlings like my Mum
