In order to launch the sub-forum here is a thread on the little snuffly chaps who live in the workshop. They are in winter mode now, coats have thickened up and they spend most of their time in the nest box messaging their friends on Snoutbook.

Sounds like a good life If it was not for the fact that it would not be fair either on the cavy in question or on Pip,I'd like to have one.

Brassica leaves and celery + hay and dry food. Poor Bumble-Wilhelm has a sports injury, he tried to jump to the ground from too high up and sprained his back legs: he is almost back to normal now but still bunny-hops when he is tired instead of using proper contrary motion. It's not very nice for them to be alone, they need at least to be one of a couple but are most happy when they can go around mob-handed.

We have three cages with two in each. We cuddle a lot with them as well, they love that!

Basil and Patch are asleep in the hay. They look so cute and innocent when they sleep.

Ofelia & Bumble-Wilhem are snuggled up in the nest box and showing no signs of wanting to take any exercise at all today, even though they have the run of the workshop at this time of year.

Haha they are presumably all shagged out. When I said one I meant just guineas in general. Once as a child we had fourteen, though that was strictly temporary. We had a breeding pair (baby guinea pigs are about the cutest thing in the whole known universe) and my best friend's mum, who was going on holiday, asked us to take care of their breeding pair too. of course, both females sprogged during the following few days. I was enchanted .. my mum less so

Baby guinea-pigs are incredibly cute. Still, I'm glad our males have been neutered.

Our guinea-pigs were mad at us last night. It's Frank's birthday so we had a party so people could celabrate with him once it was midnight. We put the piggies and their cages in the bedroom and we could feel the bad mood when we'd put them back in the kitchen and in the sitting room. I think today we are more popular again.

You didn't invite them to the party?! No wonder they were annoyed!

We took Cotton and Mr. You out last night to cuddle with them. They love it. Once they are on our laps, they instantly settle into a comfortable postition, sometimes a pink little foot sticking out, and expect to get cuddles which we happily give them. They are absolutely not shy and look so adorably. Cotton began to wander around eventually to investigate her environment. Mr. You tends to stay on Frank's lap, though. He is very attached to Frank.

All our piggies have had a bath today. They partially enjoyed it and are looking nice and clean now, just Mr. You was extremely whiny.

They did like the warmth from the hairdryer and the rubbing them dry gently with towels. We knoe that because they made those noises they make when they are happy. They hated the water.

I think they would not appreciate the hair dryer I have. It is like a tiny jet engine! Honey loves a good towelling down when we get back in from the wet. It is very annoying if she has been naughty just as we are getting near home as I can't not do it. At this time of year a fair chunk of my laundry is towels that have gone black just from one trip out.

Has she learnt how to manipulate you?

Cavies are good natural swimmers and usually enjoy the water ... Bumble has a bit of a skin infection at the moment so is getting regular baths with Nizerol ... the problem is the after bath rubdown - he looks around for a while and decides that the 'big hutch' needs exploration ... and off he runs, very awkward removing him from beneath the presbyteral sofa. Given the incentive they can climb stairs you know: I once went over to the garage and found the Late Great Lady Julianna sitting on the second rung of the step ladder, how on earth she got up there I'll never know.

Has she learnt how to manipulate you? Only to a minor extent. When it comes to important stuff I often rule with an iron fist and she will not get me to change my mind as it's usually things where someone, including her, will get hurt. If she does things like running into the road (which she almost never does now) it is a case of instant retribution. There is no time to discuss it with her!

Our Sparky had a skin infection when we got him. We had to give him regular baths and we had to rub some lotion on him daily.

This is not a very nice message.
Bumble did not respond to the initial treatment for his skin condition and, on further investigation, we found that he had a fungal infection, which Ofelia started to present shortly after. The ailment is very serious indeed, once the fungus gets below the skin it causes seizures and eventual death through coronary arrest.
They are now both living at the Rescue Charity's treatment centre (I am paying the drugs cost) and will not be able to come back here because the accommodation they had was in a wooden building which has other wood stored in it - it is not possible to irradicate the fungal spores from such an environment.
Once they have recovered the charity will rehome them. The treatment is straightforward but radical - I really don't want to describe the details - and they are both much better. I miss them a lot and don't like being in the workshop without them playing around my feet while I work.

That is a very saddening thing to read, but it is good that they are being treated, cared for and showing signs of improvement at least.

That is so sad to hear. Ours are indoors, so we never had any problems with that except for back then when Sparky brought it here from the breeder.
