I am putting this here as the DW section does not get much traffic - please do not move it For no reason I have decided that over the next days and weeks I am going to watch all the DW episodes I have, which is everything up to the end of series seven, and post reviews. I am going to do them in reverse order, starting with The Name of the Doctor because, as Sheldon says, what's life without whimsy?

The name of the Doctor - Matt Smith
I do like this one - it's one of my all time favourites. It's got some of my favourite characters - River, Vastra and co - and an interesting storyline which ties up the question of what Trenzalore is and how Clara manages to have existed many times. Nice teaser at the end for the Christmas special too. And some great comic moments with Strax.

Nightmare in silver
Not that keen on this one. Those kids are irritating stage school brats and I don't like it when they introduce characters who are not going to have a big part anyway. The storyline was quite weak - another 'it's got cybermen in it so we don't need to think too hard about it.' Liked the bloke playing the Emperor tho. I wish Clara had accepted his marriage proposal!

The Crimson Horror
I do like this one. It's another Vastra and co one with some great comic lines from Strax. Set in the Victorian era which is one of my favourites. Plot is slightly convoluted but there is plenty of action. Annoying kids make a cameo at the end.

Journey to the Centre of the Tardis
Don't like this one. The plot is frankly silly and impossible to follow. Also there are too many contradictions - what's all this about the TARDIS being infinite? Not that they've ever mentioned before. Too weird.

Hide
I liked this one despite it being a bit weird.Likeable central characters and an interesting story twist when the identity of the 'ghost'was revealed. I really did not 'get' the extra plot with the tree monsters though.

Cold War
I recall not liking this one much when first I watched it. I assumed it was just another 'let's bring out another old baddie so we don't have to worry too much about the plot' kind of thing. Watching it again though I liked it much better and found the storyline a lot more intelligent than I had first thought. They introduced some new things about the Ice Warriors and depicted them as not as villainous as they had often been portrayed to be previously. But I still found Clara annoying.

The TARDIS has always been immense inside, but I don't remember anything about infinite.

In fact once or twice the Doctor has removed bits to make it smaller.
The ring of something or other
I did not lke this one when it first aired - it seemed that the only good thing about it was the singing. I still think it is one of the weaker ones of the series, but a rewatch made me like it a little better. Loved the nods to Star Wars and the reference to the Doctor's granddaughter, also interesting to see more of Clara's backstory

The Bells of St John
Another fairly weak episode with a rather strange plot, which gives us another glimpse of the Great Intelligence.

The Snowman - CHritmas special
Love this one - it's one of the all time classics. Clara is less irritating as a Victorian barmaid/governess and it has Strax and co in it. Interesting and imaginative storyline and interesting too to see how the Doctor was coping with the loss of Rory and Amy. He does seem to be a bito a sucker for a pretty face though - he got over them easily enough when CLara came along.

The Angels take Manhattan
This is another big favourite. Love the interaction between River and the Doctor and it has a great storyline - nice to see a bit more of the angels too. This is the last episode featuring Amy and Rory though which always makes me feel a little sad. I wonder what the Doctor said to Brian, Rory's father? After all he has broken his promise not to let them die and I suppose it will be scan comfort to Brian that they lived for fifty odd more years in a different time.

The one with the cubes
Already forgotten what it's called. This one was a bit weak ... storyline did not make a huge amount of sense, especially the ending. But it was nice to see more of Amy and Rory's domestic set up and see them come towards the realisation that they might want to top traveling with the Doctor. I do like Brian Williams too.

A town called Mercy
Quite like this one- it's not a classic but it's got an interesting storyline and it's fascinating to see the doctor in a moral dilemna .. and Amy arguing with him about his decisions. I was surprised that he would consider handing Jax over to the gunslinger and glad that Amy stopped him from doing so. Jax himself made a good point about how looking at the Doctor was like looking at himself - the guilt and the anger.

Dinosaurs on a spaceship Love this one . Good storyline and I like Brian Williams. Nice to see a cameo by Nefertiti too and the robots provided a nice comic touch. Was interesting to see that the Doctor was actually prepared to kill Solomon though - despite the fact that he - Solomon - had committed genocide that is something I was not expecting

Asylum of the daleks
Another good one. Twist at the beginning when it turn out Rory and Amy have separated but nice to see them reconciled. Fun and quirky plot line with the daleks capturing the doctor and begging for help. Sad twist at the end when it is revealed what has happened to Oswin.

The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe - Xmas special
Bit of a weird one this but what it lacks in storyline it makes up for in feel goodiness. I liked the woman playing Madge and the obligatory stage school brats weren't as bad as they sometimes are. The ending was a bit weird tho - wouldn't the bloke have been done for going AWOL?

The wedding of River Song - series six
This is another personal favourite of mine with some old characters I liked- CHurchill and Dorien for instance. Storyline was a bit convoluted but I worked it out in the end. It was nice to see that the Doctor DID in the end make an honest woman of River.

Closing Time
Another good one and nice to see Craig and Sophie back again. It was a cyberman episode but they did not do what seems to be the usual thing of thinking that if they have a well known baddie in the episode they do not have to make much of an effort with the storyline. Lots of funny moments and poignant to think that the doctor believed that he had only a few days to live at the time

The God Complex
I love this one - one of the all time classics. Interesting and clever storyline and some poignant moments. Shame we never got to see what was in the Doctor's room.

The Girl Who waited
Another good one, largely Amy centred this time. I was surprised and a bit dismayed that the Doctor let the older version of Amy effectively die and lied to both her and Rory in the process. Interesting too to see the conflict between the older Amy and the Doctor, leading her to declare that he hated him.

Let's Kill Hitler
This is the one where we find out who River is. Interesting storyline and nice cameo from Hitler. I still can't quite reconcile Mels with River .. the pesonalities seem just too different, not to mention their ages. And River is not particularly likeable in this one. I liked that, after nearly killing the Doctor, she then sacrifices her remaining regeneration energy to save him

A Good Man goes to War
Another good episode which reveals much which had been previously unknown. Nice surprise when it turned out that Amy had been a flesh avatar for the entire series ..also nice twist to learn that River was Amy and Rory's daughter. Nice to see Strax's first appearance too and a bit more of Vastra and Jenny.

the rebel flesh/the almost people
I watched these in the right order even though I am working backwards. Didn't like them when they were first broadcast and can't say I liked them any better this time though I can't put my finger on why. I just couldn't engage with any of the characters really and the blunt Northern accents were annoying - we don't all talk like that! The bit with the two doctors was fun and the twist at the end was surprising but that's about all these two have going for them

The Doctor's Wife
Love this one, even though the storyline is a bit weird. Some brilliant acting makes up for it tho - Auntie and Uncle, Idris, House ... great stuff. Nice nod to the fact that Rory seems to have several time found himself waiting a long time for Amy for various reasons. And the first mention of the fact that time lords can change gender. Also, we get an explanation of why the console room keeps changing

The Curse of the Black Spot
Bit mediocre this one but not awful. Featured another annoying stage school brat - man, British child actors don't have irritate me. They seem to have only two types of pronunciation - the posh well enunciated one or the cockney 'we're trying out for a role in the Artful Dodger's gang' one. Why they can't just teach them to speak normally is beyond me. Nice cameo from Lily Cole as the weird doctor thingy.

The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon
I do like these two, though I am normally a bit ambivalent about episodes which set up season long 'themes' - the Silence in this case. But this is well written and gripping and answers a lot of questions that were raised in the previous series about River and her background.

The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang - series five
A great, if in some places confusing, end to series five here. I liked the twist where it was revealed that all the baddies of the universe got together to form an alliance to put the Doctor into the Pandorica. Nice to see Rory's devotion to Amy too though I would have liked to have seen some glimpses of how he had spent the two thousand years.
