Took Tinker into the vet's today for his vaccinations and health check and was told that he has a slight heart murmur. I now need to monitor his breathing, when he is asleep, for changes in his breathing rate, to see if it is possibly getting worse or not.

How old is he?
Little Miss JoeP has a slight heart murmur, detected when she was 16 or so, but is very very slight. The cardiologist said "come in for a check-up when you're 21".

He is just over 6 now. It could be a stable or treatable thing, but it still worries and scares me.

Has his heart been checked by this particular vet before? IME, different vets notice murmurs to different degrees. It might have been there forever.

Heart murmurs are pretty common.

We've always gone to the same practice, but he's been examined by a few different vets over the years. I'll keep an eye on him and we'll see how it goes. Worrying about it is not going to make it any different, but it's just hard not to worry about someone you love.
