Sparky has been wheezing for months. There seems to be something wrong with his lungs, but we can't seem to figure out what it is. The vet tried different kinds of antibiotics which didn't help and we will have to take him back to the vet at the end of the week. Am worried because he lost a lot of weight. He used to be around 1200 g and is now barely 900 g.

It's sad when pets are sick. They can't tell you what's wrong and don't know that you are there to help. I hope he doesn't suffer too much.

Poor Sparky. Is it an age thing? How long to g.pigs normally live?

We need to keep giving him medication. Without it he would be dead in 10 days, the vet told us. Now we are hoping for him to become more stable, especially with his weight. He lost a lot of weight.

That sounds pretty serious. I'm glad the vet found it though.

We have a good vet. I'm glad we found him. We need to watch Sparky and see how it goes. I hope we will have him with us for a bit longer.

As okay as he can be. Wheezing, but he is eating.

I thought maybe I should write a quick update on Sparky. He is doing surprisingly well. We have been giving him corn and oatmeal which seems to have stopped the weight loss for now, he gets his daily medication and is hanging in there. An impressive little piggie.

Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. Sparky is eating less now and he is more passive. We first noticed it last night.

Ah, guinea pigs, they are so cute. But never again, they just died on me.
One neutered male had a very big lump of fat on the back. The vet operated it. The operation went well but the patient died. He stopped eating after that (shocked I think) and died. His female companion seemed ok, she ate. But one morning she just lay dead in her cage. Died of lonelyness?
One non-neutered male (which we had taken over from a friend of my daughter) lived in a cage by himself. One evening he lay on may lap. I put him down and then ha started to cramp and died. But at least he was 6 years old, the othere guinea pigs died younger.
Hope Sparky gets better!

We lost one early, Basil. Our piggies are 4 and 4 1/2 years old. Spotty almost died from diarrhea last year, but she is fine now.

Sparky seems to be close to death. He lost 40 g last week and has been a bit lopsidee. When we came home tonight, we noticed he struggled to walk around. He is wheezing loudly, but was still squeaking a bit and nibbled on some hay and cucmber. I don't want to lose him, but I think it would be better for him if he died soon, before he gets so bad we have to take him to the vet to have him put down.

I thought it wouldn't be so bad because we could prepare for it and he has been alive for much longer than he should have - the vet called him the miracle pig. But it is still hard to watch him deteriorate so quickly now. It sounds horrible, but if he doesn't manage to die today, Frank might need to take him to a vet tomorrow to have him put down. We'll have to see. Our vet is on holiday, so we'd have to see somone wo doesn't knnow Sparky.

Sparky is hanging in there. He doesn't really seem to be in pain, but his back legs aren't really working anymore because he is so weak. He is still eating and still dragging himself around the cage a tiny bit. I know what a piggies in pain looks like and Sparky seems to be very weak and tired. We are still hoping he will just fade away without too much suffering, give him his medication and Frank gave him a bath because he was dirty for lying in the same spot for longer spaces of time.
