There are usually a lot of propaganda, half-lies and exaggerations to influence the voters before an election. Withdrawal from EU, would this really be advantagous for Britain? www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/british-election-lies-by-chris-patten-2015-04As far as I've read Britain has not much to complain about. They have a specieal discount when paying their contribution to EU. The reason for this disount is that Thather demanded it. What do you say, is Chris Patton right?

What do you say, is Chris Patton right? The Project Syndicate website betrays its American influence in the title, even though its headquarters are in Prague - America is fixated about lies; indeed, only American politicians' children utter the word 'lies' as their first word. And later on in the article, they give the date format as May 7, which is the American format. True to minority website style, the article blusters through irrelevances and tries to create falsehoods where none exist. I don't rate the article worth very much.

Anyone else voting labour?

No because (a) I don't like the control that unions have on Labour, and (b) a vote for Labour in my constituency would be a vote for the Conservatives. I'm voting LibDem.

So will it be "four more years" (or seven or what?) with Cameron?

5 years - fixed-term parliaments now.

I'm prepared to bet that Scotland won't put up with 5 years of Cameron, though.

Where would you go? Conservatism or nationalism of various sorts seems to be sweeping all of Europe - including Finland, I've checked.

We're doing fairly okay over here.

OK, so this is not international politics, but any bets on the outcome? My nightmare scenario is a Conservative / UKIP coalition. I may need to book my one way flight to Kye's sofa if that happened... So, UKIP has no power. But nor do the Greens. Are you staying or going?

Staying. In Wales. And hoping for more devolved powers. Sorry...

I'd prefer the Moon because it's closer and would feel I could enjoy the occasional trip back to earth.

On a serious note, so many people are genuinely depressed and really worried about the outcome of the election. David Cameron has created a Cabinet of Horrors: a Minister for Justice and an Employment Minister who want to bring back hanging, a Culture Secretary who's previously voted against gay rights (because there aren't many gays in the arts, are there? ) and of course the wonderful Ian Duncan Smith for the DWP, back by popular demand (not) who will continue to roll out his draconian and lethal measures on anyone who happens to need benefits, working or not. I despair.

I was on holiday when the results were announced and was able to put them on one side but I have to admit the situation brings tears to my eyes.

I think your voting system is rather weird. How is it possible that those who had the most votes do not get the most seats and it is called a fair system?

I don't think anyone seriously calls it a FAIR system...

Yes, it's the system we have and it's probably not that bad in a two-party situation, but that's far removed from reality these days.

I know, but I also read that a few years ago there was a referendum about the voting system and people voted it to be okay as it was. That was what baffled me.

That referendum was carefully crafted to avoid getting the wrong answer ... by the politicians who stand to lose out from other systems.
As I recall the alternative answers were limited and quite narrow, and of course there was lots of publicity about how changing it would let in the Communists, or the Fascists, or both, or cause a gridlocked government.
