T he Armenian genocide, though the Armenians were not the only victims. The Christians were the targets, i.e. also Greeks and Assyrians. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_GenocideTo this day Turkey denies this and it is a crime to inform about it. It is illegal to "insult the Turkish nation". Up to 1,5 million is said to have been killed, though Turkey say less. Turkey recalled its envoy to the Vatican after Pope Francis used the word genocide in a reference during a Mass.

Today is 100 years since ANZAC Day - which marks the battles in Gallipolli, Turkey. Somehow it strikes me as so odd that it's essentially the same date and same place and thousands died there - Turks and Aussies and Brits and all.

Well, the war may be the trigger to the genocide. The Ottoman empire suffered great losses and the Armenians were suitable scapegoats, being Christians like the arch-enemy Russia and seen as traitors and collaborators.
