I bought two blueberry bushes last year and got maybe 10 berries on each. They are just now budding a tiny bit, but gee I hope they grow a little. Mine only gave me a few berries last year, but it's doing quite well this year. I've got flowers all over the bush. I'm hopeful

I put down about twenty strawberry plants along my front steps. I put another twenty plants in two medium plant tubs with soil from my composter. You should see the leaves on the latter! And the number of fluers! The other plants are doing....okay. The potted strawberries are doing phenomenally.

Pear trees? The big Labrador we have picks the lower ones off and he eats them.

Saves you having to clear away half rotted fruit at the end of the season.

I'd love to grow pears. Home grown apples I am not so enthusiastic about - the only apples that I really like are Granny Smiths and I don't think you can grow those in this country. I will eat any type of pear, though

Ah, but my apples will do great in an apple pie As for eating apples, I too am a fan of Granny Smith apples. I would like to have a peach tree out front, but finding one that is self polinating is difficult. Most kinds rely on bumblebees etc. to polinate them, which won't happen this high up.

I too really enjoy Granny Smith apples when they've been off the tree for a few days, but just about any variety is amazing fresh from the tree!

We used to have a tiny plum tree that produced loads of plums, so many at the same time we usually had to give most of them away.

So... my blackcurrants have done well this year, my redcurrants have done super well: But my raspberries, that I was really looking forward to, just withered. The leaves are lush but the fruit never happened.

I have lots of raspberries, though they are less sweet than last year. My blueberries have turned out shrivelled for some reason and inedible.

This year has been a disaster fruit wise: I had some raspberries and strawberries in May, way too early in the season, and since then they haven't done much. The only thing really producing has been my appletree. If only I knew what they have to look like when they're ready to be picked...

We had almost no strawberries (well, I suspect the slugs would disagree), but a good crop of delicious raspberries - over for a while - and blackberries (or possibly some other kind of *berry; they are huge) that are still going, ripening at different times.
Plus lots of passionfruit of debated edibility - not the tropical passionfruit that go purple and wrinkly - these are orange and soft and have a very delicate (bland) flavour. They're ornamental really.

I picked my apples and one of my colleagues was very happy to turn them into an apple pie. Unfortunately he wasn't inclined to share. Not fair, since they were my apples... I'm giving my apple tree away to school though. I'd rather have apples I can actually eat.
