So my Labrador had been very ill for a while, being sick and having lost a lot of weight. She deteriorated a lot in the past week so we decided to take her to a 'dog hospital' for the best treatment possible. She had been there for half an hour before being diagnosed with cancer, pneumonia and heart failure. This all happened when I was at work, and I returned home having no idea. I could see my parents looked quite upset so I asked them what was wrong and they said they'd had to have her put down. RIP to a good and loyal friend. Dogs are great companions

I'm so sorry, Kate. One feels so helpless when a beloved animal gets sick. We spend their whole lifetime caring for them, and it seems wrong when there's nothing more to be done. And even if it's the only compassionate thing to do, it's still traumatic to have to put them down.

I'm sorry Kate. I'm dreading that with my own dog - she's 9 and healthy now, but I hate the thought of how few years she might have left.
