The second bloom of the roses is over and the remnants are being deadheaded. This will be the final deadheading of the season, from October 1, no more deadheading. I'll just let them hip out.

The final grooming for the year is in process.
The goldfinches have already started arriving to feast on the rudbeckia seedheads. They're pretty bold about it, too.

Yesterday was such a gorgeous autumn day, I'm hoping for a repeat.

The katsura at the street goes yellow. Fall has begun in earnest.

Very very pretty. We don't get that sort of thing here .. the leaves just sort of give a resigned shrug, turn brown and then fall off.

Very very pretty. We don't get that sort of thing here .. the leaves just sort of give a resigned shrug, turn brown and then fall off. Yes...Understood. The tree in the upper right, a sycamore maple, does that. The tree to the upper left, a cornus kousa (Korean dogwood) goes magenta red. The real stunner in the photo is the neighbor's tree at the curbside across the street, which you can see as the light barked trunk. It is a persica parrotia (a Persian ironwood) and it's leaves go multicolored before they fall. Around here, yellows tend to dominate and reds are scattered and thin. Of course, the dominant trees around here are evergreens...firs, mostly.

My magnolia tree is in full bloom today (St. Patrick's Day) My garden is very untidy and desperately needs mowing and pruning, but the grass and ground are still very wet: I keep waiting for a few dry days before I start on the work - but no luck with that so far this year.
