the most significant scientific achievement of the 20th century?
And me, I do not know. I'd like to say the internet but then, that could not have been achieved without other things - at its most basic without electricity (yes I know that was nineteenth century but indulge me). Taken as a single thing though I actually would go for the internet - with the Moon landing and organ transplantation a close second.

The computer beats all others by far. Without the Internet, life would carry on as normal, as it does in Cuba, but without computers, industry would be vastly different.

I assume that Cuba has the internet - I am sure you have sent me messages from there, or maybe it was Kye I can't remember. But commerce existed before the computer

It wasn't me. Internet is so sporadic in Cuba I never bothered trying.

I assume that Cuba has the internet - I am sure you have sent me messages from there, or maybe it was Kye I can't remember. I did send you messages from Cuba. Cuban hotels and some post offices have Internet facilities but it is so expensive (a day's wage for an hour's time with a poor connection) that most Cuban citizens cannot afford to use it. A friend of mine in Cuba worked for a travel firm, for which the firm needed the Internet, and she used it primarily for sending emails.

My first thoughts on the subject matter were things like antibiotics and polio vaccine type thingies. We couldn't enjoy robots, space travel, and the internet if we were all dead from cooties.

If a tribe is isolated, it doesn't need antibiotics or polio vaccine type things.

Dunno. I've been watching a 1920's murder mystery series and the smart phone seems like an amazing invention as well. Not only can you call from pretty much anywhere, you can take pictures, make films and share them. It would sure help Miss Fisher.

Probably many of the vaccines for various diseases and treatments for cancer. Medicine has allowed people all around the world, regrettably more so in developed nations, to live longer lives/
