The supermarkets are flogging all their Christmas stuff off cheap so I treated myself to a cheese and oatcakes - I hate oatcakes - set with chutney for a couple of quid, marked down from some horrendously overinflated price. The chutney is sweet tomato and chilli and it is absolutely delicious. Gonna have some on toasted cheese in a minute. Lovely.

tis indeed. The cheese is very good quality cheddar too. And the oatcakes will do for loft insulation.

I was tempted by a cold ham too but I thought I'd wait and see if they reduced it any further

I like oatcakes. You can give them to me. Keep the chutney though. Tomato is a Bad Thing.

I am sure that the oatcakes will still be in the same condition in June

Put them in the freezer at least! That is, if you have a freezer...

Not this? Most breads and pastries freeze well, unless there's cream in them.

Ah! Anyone else out there with a faster computer and the same linguistic base as the Moose?
I've never seen an oatcake that wasn't cookie-like.

In size and shape it looks a bit like a cookie but it tastes of .. cardboard.

This is a company in Staffordshire, but I have seen mention of "Scottish Oatcakes".

And Sven saves the day! THAT is what I have. And trust me, if you were hoping that they tasted sweet and crumbly, think again. They taste, to quote the wise Bill Bryson 'like something you would give a parrot to strengthen its beak'

I tired "unpalatable oatcake" and didn't get anything, so I tried to think of a synonym. "Nutritious" worked...
