The Daily Mail site makes for especially unpleasant and depressing reading on this subject. Yes, I know I should not read it but at the same time, stopping reading it does not make that huge section of opinion go away. Most of their readers and commentators seem genuinely unable to contemplate how it would be for them if THEY were in that position, or that they might want a little compassion if that were the case. It's all 'oh, they're only coming over here for the benefits.' Bollocks. I presume that most of the adult refugees worked in Syria and would be more than happy to work here too.

On a different note, I have a great deal of respect for Germany at this point in time.

On a different note, I have a great deal of respect for Germany at this point in time. It seems like volunteers here are often making up for bad planning done by politicians. But it seems like the general mood is beginning to get a bit more negative, people say it's getting too much. Admittedly, some pupils' PE lessons have been cancelled ease some gyms are being used for refugees. Considering my own negative experience with PE classes, I would have been happy for refugees living in our gym.

haha me too. And people are whinging here too but .... these people need somewhere to go. To those who say 'why didn't they stay in Turkey' well, maybe Turkey did not want them all either. Maybe spreading these people around friendly countries in the world is the best way to go.

EU wants them to stay in refugee camps in Turkey. In return Turkey will have not only money from EU but special consideration (no irritating reports about Turkey's way from democracy to dictatorship or about Turkey's treatment of the Kurds). About 8.000 Syrian refugees/week seek asylum in Sweden. There will be 160.000 Syrians totally this year in Sweden. And there are also many refugees from Irak and Afghanistan. We can't do it any more. www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/24/sweden-asylum-seekers-refugees-policy-reversalWe have the feeling that other European countries are shirking to take there share. The same goes for USA (ISIS started to grow after the invasion of Irak). The big USA has hitherto received only 2.000 Syrian refugees. Obama has promised to receive 10.000 Syrians next year, but; www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/nov/19/syrian-refugees-in-america-fact-from-fiction-congress

Yes I think that the problem is that some countries aren't doing enough - 160 000 is a huge amount for a coutnry the size of Sweden to absorb. I have no problem with desperate people being given help and asylum but the burden needs to be spread more widely. THere are a lot of free countries in the world. Can't every country that has a little room and a little spare money take some?

The EU should make the same deal with Lebanon and Jordan. They each have more refugees than any other country (except Syria itself where more than 1.1 million Syrians sought refuge in other parts of the country).
