Are you worried they might come after you and shoot you?

Are you talking about the latest school shooting? We all know what the weapon lovers say: "If the teachers had been armed they would have shot down the killer before he had killed so many". Of course, all these weapons lead to terrible accidents too, like this: www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34450841

I am not even going to get into it with the NRA brigade on facebook. You have NRA supporters on your friend list? You're more tolerant than I am. But on the subject of children getting hold of guns, the pro-gun crowd would claim that responsible gun owners keep theirs locked away. So what use would they be in an emergency? By the time you've gone to your safe and unlocked your gun etc, an intruder could have shot your entire family. This comedian explains it brilliantly

And now we have had our first school massacre in Sweden. I have just been waiting for it. There have been two ones in Finland, so why not in Sweden. www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/22/pupils-wounded-in-sword-attack-at-swedish-school?CMP=twt_guOne teacher and one child killed. I hope the two other victims survive. The police shot the killer and he died. The motive? Racist. And also a lonely young man with low status, I assume. I think if he had had guns instead of knives/machetes/swords/whatever, more would have been killed.

I read about it earlier. Very sad but yes my first thought was - thank God that he did not at least have a gun.

It's the American way. We should all be free to do these things.

The trouble is, the pro gun crowd will just use this as an example for their usual arguments: 1. Other weapons are just as bad 2. If a 'good guy with a gun' had been there this wouldn't have happened.

Everyone with some sense realizes that there would have been much more dead if the killer had had a gun. But unless you're a hunter or belong to a shooting club, ordinary people don't own guns in Sweden. Obviously this Anton did not know anyone to buy a gun from.
The police was there within five minutes and shot him.
I don't get this thinking of "good" or "bad men" with guns. Until the mass shootings, all the mass shooters were considered "good men". It is not like you're born good and stay good the rest of your life. Mental illness or mental instability can affect anyone.

But all the talk about "good guys with guns" is never going to stand up to analysis, it's only aimed at firing up people who already believe.

On the day that one of the US school massacres happened - I forget which it was, which in itself is a bit depressing - there was a mass attack in a school in China. This was with an axe. It was a dreadful thing for the victims but none of them died. And yet on facebook there was the whole 'oh look, there are massacres in other countries too' crap and the meme claimed that the Chinese victims had been killed. Not one was.
