I don't generally till at least the first of December but I've noticed that some on the estate have gone up already - and of course the official lights (ahem, light) have been switched on in time and most of the supermarkets are decked out. I'll leave it another week at least though I think.

My family's tradition has always been to put up the tree and decorations on the day after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday. It is the day after the fourth Thursday of November. Any mention of the C word before that day causes the elves to kill a baby reindeer.

Second or third week of December. Putting them up before December is for shops and fools.

I put them up yesterday (so I guess I am one of the fools) because I noticed lots of them were up and the Christmas market opens today.

By long-standing family tradition, we put up our decoration on the third Sunday of Advent. Though with the family being more spread out now, we are more flexible. We'd rather be able to put them up together, than decorate on the 'right' day.

But November is... November. Not Christmas. When does Christmas start then? Surely Advent (Dec 1st) is the earliest date you could possibly claim it's Christmas.
Shops do it early because they're shops, trying to sell stuff. Even that annoys me before December. I try and ignore it.

It's so dark and depressing and so I was glad to see the other people had put decorations up. My family used to do it on the first weekend of advent, but we used to have the tradition of "allowing" Christmas stuff after St. Martin's day which is November 11th. She's like my whole family is made of fools.

You're not a fool, Kaylee. I was being deliberately bah humbug about it, lol. I get like that at Christmas - I don't want the pressure of even thinking about it till at least mid December.

I have five family/close friend birthdays in November. Then my birthday on 1st December, so I don't even begin to think of Christmas till all that is out the way.
Also, I like to leave decorating till I finish work at the end of term, usually the second week of December. Then it feels properly Christmassy - it just wouldn't before that.

As late as possible or when my wife starts pestering. Untangling the tree lights: can't wait. :-(

I think they deliberately spend all year slowly tangling themselves up. No matter how carefully I put them away they are always in a major state when I get them out again

Frank's birthday is on December 16th, but it would be too late to only think about it after his birthday. I think I just really like celebrating these things and making them special, but I don't like he pressure, so I do many things early to avoid getting stressed.

My Christmas lights, creche, and wreath will go up tomorrow (the first Sunday of Advent). The tree will get put up 2 weeks before Christmas. I don't like putting it up too early because the needles get too dry and fall off.

Since we are the Christmas home and have a contest each year we start in October. Over 100,000 outdoor lights. The indoors is very well decorated. People tour our home just to see what it's like. It's alot of work and we have to sometimes hire people to help.

I got some fir sprigs from a pupil's dad yesterday which made me very happy since so far, we had only put the lights up. I had meant to buy some fir sprigs in time for the first Suday of Advent, but hadn#t managed to do so, so it made me happy to get that and I did the rest of the decorating yesterday. I also did a lot of baking yesterday and today.

It's a grouping of Mary, Joseph, Jesus and various angels and shepherds. Mine is quite small and made of of clear glass. It looks like this:

That seems like what we would call a nativity. We used to have one with silver glitter for the snow and it would get everywhere.

I guess I adopted the word "creche" from the French. In my youth in English speaking Ontario I probably would have called it a manger scene. But I never thought to have one before I moved to Quebec --I think it'a more of a Catholic tradition.
