It is. Here in Germany, you would be surprised about the names you can find. Frank often can't believe what kind of names exist here! I know! I know this guy who married a girl named Katz, whose family name was Katzenellenbogen before they moved here and shortened it. She said it means 'cats' elbows'.

Schlingensiepen lost. I was so hoping to be represented by a Schlingensiepen. Sigh... Gotta love somebody whose dog's name is Bonhoeffer!

Katzenellenbogen is a very well-known Jewish name. Lots of famous rabbis. Interesting. I was not aware it is a Jewish surname. There are a few Katzenellenbogens in South Africa. Also, one of the five bastions of the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town (built by the Dutch) is named Katzenellenbogen. Was always the easiest one to remember in history tests. The other are Leerdam, Buuren, Nassau, and Oranje

There's a Katzenellenbogen near Frankfurt but it's not by the sea.

Bill Bryson gave the pseudonym Katz to one of his friends in his books, then pointed out later that he had not realised it was a Jewish surname

I've never heard that name in Germany. These particular Katzenellenbogenen of my acquaintance were grandmunchkins of holocaust survivors or escapers or something from Germany.

So maybe that's why I don't know the name here, they have all emigrated.
