Someone made a rather amusing quip on this week's Have I Got News For You about the difficulty in translating from English to Chinese. Roughly it went:
'For instance, George Osbourne kept meaning to say to the Chinese Prime Minister 'your human rights record stinks' but what actually came out was 'hello, would you like to buy our country'?
Well, I laughed. Slightly bitterly.

Actually, compared to America's human rights record on everything except political dissidents, China's human rights record isn't that bad. (Not brilliant though.)
