I bought some - cheapo stuff - on the advice of various people who assured me that it was the best thing for a bad cold and sore throat. I am not sure whether that's true or not but after a couple of small glasses I did feel much more mellow.

If I drank even one decent-sized glass of it, I'd most likely rapidly fall asleep. Does that count as being mellow?

To be fair, I mentioned the 'homemade cough med' my family concocted consisted of whiskey, lemon juice, and honey. Did you make the concoction, or move to drinking the whiskey neat?

You're right. I'm wrong. Anybody see where I left my marbles You've still all your marbles. The distinction is insignificant and those who flog it just do so to be pointlessly pedantic. Spell it either way and most people will recognize it for what it is, spirits based upon distilled fermented barleycorn malt.

And you obviously jump to insupportable conclusions with inadequate information. I'm a fan of Highland single malts. Glenfiddich is one I can afford. When in Scotland, I made it a point to tour a spirits distillery. I did so in Keith. I arrived the day an excise man was present, so the barrels were being tapped for samples. I just think the whole spelling issue is moronic. Besides, it is an anglicisation of a Gaelic word into English. It will never be correct in English, however it might be spelled, and it is spelled two different ways in contemporary Gaelic. Bottlers of spirits gave up long ago and this malingering disparity continues despite any real lack of meaning.

Kelly - 'how very dare you' is a comic phrase here - it occurs to me that it might not be known in the US. I forget where it comes from but I think some British sitcom.

Ah right, did not know that The main point though is that Bill wasn't trying to be rude but I suspect that the phrase might not be known outside of the UK so it might have sounded it.
